In a photography world dominated by Canon, Nikon, and Sony...Are there any other Pentaxians out there? This is my first 365 project. I'm enjoying all the pics and appreciate all the comments. I've owned a Navy Blue Pentax K-x for the past year and a half. What's YOUR color?
Also, what is your favorite post editing tool? I basically use iPhoto or Picasa...because they are FREE.
YES. I have a K-r. Loving it. mine is Black, but only because the shop didn't have blue available when I bought it. My husband has Pentax, too (forget which model), and it's nice to not have to buy two whole sets of lenses, that we only need the one between us and swap them when needed.
@seahorsejenn That's the beauty of Pentax and being able swap lenses and even use older lenses. My second color choice was the Storm Trooper white, but sadly that wasn't available.
Hi! We switched to the Pentax k-5 from the canon rebel. It's the control of both shutter and aperture (without being in full-manual) that persuaded us.
It's been neat to use some of the lenses my mom and I still have from our 1980s sears/Pentax cameras.
I have a K-r, wanted the stormtrooper white, but only black was available, I love it. Have recently bought a X-90 bridge camera as my take to work camera. Works just as well as the K-r without the multiple lense issues. Through and through pentaxian here.
I have both PS cs5 and Elements 10 as post production tools, not an expert in either. I use cs5 for RAW editing and monos, elements I use for Jpegs ( the x-90 has no Raw capability)
Yes! Been using a K-x. I've been eyeing one of the new K-5 II's, but I haven't fully decided yet whether it's worth the money to upgrade -- when I have a camera I like already. I was using iPhoto until just recently. I needed a better way to organize photos, so I've been using a trial version of Lightroom. So far I really like it.
Oh, forgot to answer on post-processing. We use Lightroom for raw editing and are starting to explore PS Elements. We also bought Portrait Professional, (for portraits ldo) which is amazing and potentially scary.
Before I started shooting in raw I used Irfanview and learned a little Paint.net 'cause they're free. Paint.net is far simpler than GIMP.
Like @manek43509 I too have a Pentax K1000. It is so much fun. A great, free editing software is GIMP. You can download two versions. One version has a lot of plugins and the other doesn't. That is where I do all my work. I don't have the money to spend on PS so I figured I would save up and use GIMP. Now I am so accustomed to it I don't know if I will actually ever buy PhotoShop.
I have both a Pentax K-m and a Pentax K-5, but I also use a Canon Cyber-Shot p&s. My first SLR had a Pentax-K mount, as did my second, so of course I've kept with it. I can still use all of my decades old equipment (except for the flash and the teleconverter); love that. I've never bought a Pentax that wasn't black. ;-p The Cyber-Shot was black 'on the box', but when I unpacked it, it was white... ;-p Hasn't killed me. ;-)
My main processing tool is GraphicConverter, but I also use a range of other tools.
I use PS (CS5) Business edition for post processing. Love it...but what a learning curve. Still lots to figure out yet. Forgot to mention that I have a little point an shoot, Pentax W20 (water and dust proof), that actually takes lovely shots, too.
I started my project last year with a pentax k100d, I did upgrade to a Canon. I have since passed it onto my son.
I have always use photoshop and lightroom for processing.
@bankmann The camera I had before I upgraded to a DSLR was a red Canon PowerShot A480...it took great shots, but I wanted something more. I'm very happy with my Pentax K-x. Hmm...Graphic Converter, eh? I will check that out...thanks!
I use a K20D and my wife has a red K-r. I think the Hoya purchase of Pentax nearly killed them off, but now that Ricoh purchased the company I am very hopeful we will see more great products more often. To answer your other question, we use Photoshop Elements. I know there are many 365'ers that use the free, downloadable editing program GIMP.
@rvwalker I will check out GIMP. Yes, I am hopeful as well with the purchase by Ricoh. Thanks for your input! Again, it's great to see other Pentax users here. :-)
