I haven't read through all the replies ... but speaking as someone who has lost a human family member (as well as many furry and feathered ones over the years), I say pick anyone who has lost a human because that pain is a zillion times worse than losing a furry family member (and that's bad enough as it is).
I think Alana's friend - caring for a chronically ill child leaves little to no time to earn the kind of gift you are offering Brendan - those little luxuries never make it to the priority list when there are bills to pay and mouths to feed.
@agima Alana's friend! No one knows what is around the corner, but she has the full knowledge that her children's lives could be shorter. Having something nice to look forward too means a lot and what a wonderful surprise for her!!
I would also be tempted to give Alana a free photo too, just for being so caring!!
My choice would be Theresa (the one with the big family that is having a rare moment of actually all being together) as I'm an expat and know how hard it is to have all of the family together, just never happens... and you don't know when or if you will see some of those family members again.
OR Alanna, the friend who wants to have it as a surprise for the friend. I like that she is thinking of someone other than herself and wants to give it as a gift.

@andrina I like the way you think I might just do that.

@agima a lovely, lovely thing you are doing!!
