Yesterday and today I shot using JPEG Fine and RAW for the first time. My camera is a Nikon d5200and saves the RAW in NEF format. When I tried to open these in PSE 11, it doesn't recognize the files. The PSE Help says this: "To use raw files, set your camera to save files in its own raw file format. When you download the files from the camera, they have filename extensions like NEF, CR2, CRW, or other raw formats. Photoshop Elements can open raw files only from supported cameras. Visit the Adobe website to view a list of supported cameras." Ugh.
Am I going to have to learn the Nikon software (it came with my camera), or is there some way I can use PSE 11 my camera's RAW files. I like PSE 11 and use it with my JPEG images.
I use a D3000 and I am able to open my RAW (NEF) files in PSE 11. If my camera is supported, I would think yours would be fine. Have you tried un-installing and reloading the software?
Adobe also has a program called DNG converter. This takes the raw file and converts it to DNG format which can be read by Photoshop and Elements. Your Nikon will also be supported by this program
For PSE11, you may need some plug-in for help. I use PS CS5, it has no issue on it. Using it to create photoshop digital watermark is quite convenient.

This will give you all the same manipulation tools as are built into Lightroom.
