I was really struck when I read this article by two things:
- their photos look an awful lot like some of mine on 365
- the 365 community produces photos of much better quality than these!
Not a criticism of their book (which goes for $98, thankyouverymuch), but a realization that, with the right theme and marketing, publishing a book of photos could be a very achievable goal for lots of us here on 365.
Wow, while some of the photos I thought were well done, others certainly need some work on exposure and focus. I certainly would be disappointed if I had spent that kind of money for these results.
I am not going to self publish. I have had photo's published (ODFW), articles (religous and photography), and a book on grief through my sheriff's office. If they want more, they will call.
@ridley You read Garden and Gun?! ;o)
Anyone can self-publish. In my job (don't ask), I am regularly solicited by self-promoting authors and photographers. A few have a worthy product, read real talent, many just have out-of-control egos. I would agree that this book includes some nice snaps, but $98?! Yikes.
I'd be pretty upset if those were my best photos and was my idea of beautiful... I'm not a great photographer and certainly wouldnt even think about publishing my stuff
Hope for all of us I guess ;-)
