Cover your LCD and shoot. See how you do. I think this is a great challenge. Oh and you can't delete.

Wonderful article and thanks for sharing. I still have a darkroom in my cellar and I can't bring myself to give my old Minolta 9xi film camera away even though I haven't shot or developed film since before the turn of the century. There is still something magical about watching a B&W shot develop in the tray that I miss. I'm proud to say that I have pictures that I have shot, developed, printed mounted and framed, on my dining room walls. Much as I miss the excitement of the darkroom, I don't miss the preparation time and the cleaning up time when now you can just think "Stuff it!" and power off your PC instead!

What a great article one I can relate to as I started with film and developing. Good thing for me was although Dad wasn't into the development stage he was my best critic. I now think my photography is better having come through the print stage where you had to know the camera, lens and how it all came together. As the article says now I have finished saying my bit off for my lemonade !!!

I started with film and developing also. However, the viewfinder never really worked well for me, it was a struggle and may have been a limiting factor. When i made the switch to digital with a P/S no viewfinder. I have been using live-view ever since 2001 and the way photography is changing it is was a good decision. I will agree that be able to use and develop film is worth the effort because of the all the things you need to do before pressing the shutter and the work of post-processing in the darkroom. I agree that places like Instagram and Picsart do not seem to be an asset to photography.

No chimping! I shoot a LOT of film, and I can't quantify how much it has improved my digital shooting. For those of you who don't know, most film users here tag their film shots with "film-lives", check it out!

Cover the LCD? I must say I never check the LCD after the shot, and I hardly ever use Live View. I decide and edit after I see the raw files in the digital darkroom of Photoshop. Isn't that akin to developing the negative and then deciding how to edit, crop, tweak the print?

Came to photography in the digital age, and certainly don't have the extra cash to invest in a good film camera. Perhaps I'll try a cheap used one, but since I can't develop my own - isn't that the real fun - why would I, and what would I really get from it taking the roll to get (expensively) processed and prints made without my chance to decide how they should look?
