@vankrey and @jyokota announce a Photographers' Trip to Japan for June 2014. We have prepared an itinerary to suit the needs of photographers, and invite fellow 365ers to join us. For details, go to http://www.picturejapan.org
If you visit either of our albums from the dates June 16 to July 2, 2013, you will see some images from our previous trip, taken with high schoolers. (Yes, we admit to creating our third albums while in Japan because who could resist posting three a day if you can?)
Please register your interest on the website so we can gauge how soon we will announce this trip to people outside of our 365 community. We love Japan, we love traveling in Japan, and we love photography. Don't you think it would be fun to travel together?
Junko and Michael
PS Please post a picture of Japan here if you have one in your album!
@rvwalker I'm sorry to hear of your wife's health problems . . . we're sending good-health-vibes her way.
Thanks for posting this wonderful image . . . Were these hands of some Japanese students on a school trip? The smell of incense is so distinct, and the smoke that rises from it so compelling to photograph. We always find ourselves mesmerized by rituals that are so much a culture's way of living.
@riverlandphotos Just let us know about any questions either through the "contact" page or the "FAQ" page in the website. We're happy to fill you in on details.
I lived in Iwakuni, Japan before moving to Germany. Japan will always have a special place in my heart. There are so many marvelous places to visit and photograph.
Hi @jenniferruge -- thanks for your kind words about my homeland! I took a quick look at your album and it seems you must have lived there before starting 365, but I did notice you bought a teacup!
@jaynspain@la_photographic@steampowered -- I wish you could join us, too, and I understand about the expenses because even though we have kept the price at the lowest point possible, and below what other tours to Japan cost, it's an expensive country to get around! If all goes well on this one, who knows? Maybe we will plan more trips, farther out. :)
Junko and Michael -- what a great opportunity this would be!! And with you two as guides, it wouldn't get any better. I appreciate your work to keep the cost reasonable for such an expensive country and to pick such classic sites -- I've always wanted to see Kyoto!! So, now to figure out how to do it (get Jim to come with since his birthday is right in the middle of the trip????). I really want to join the tour!
@bobfoto Not knowing where Moresby is (and if I'm correct in assuming it's Port Moresby in PNG), I searched out of curiosity and it appears that there are in just under 7 hours. I'm loving the idea of people coming together from across the globe from this community.
@vankrey - yup, POM or Port Moresby was my reference. Return flights from here are expensive, but I'm thinking it might be fun to go to Japan for a few days/weeks.
@leigh7900 -- I just looked and you are from Australia so you could fly straight up and not even have much jet lag! I hope you can make it happen . . . your photography is beautiful and it would be fun to take photos together in Japan.
@bobfoto I'll bet you can have continued chapters of your hotel series and stories galore from Japan, too! Michael photographs spiders in Japan, so that could add to your collection of spider stories as well. It would be so much fun if you could join us!
@taffy -- what FUN it would be if you could go with us!!! Just imagine Jim, having a whole group of photographers around! :) Then he'd know you were quite normal in your behaviors.
@jyokota@vankrey
Whoohooo!!!! Jim decided that for my (dreaded fairly big) birthday, he'd give me the photo trip!!! So, I'm in! I'm so excited to have this to look forward to. Thank you both for putting it together!
Hi, Junko and Michael -- I'm seriously considering joining you -- I've wanted to visit Japan for a long time. I love the prospect of seeing Japan with fellow 365-ers who understand the need to stop for photo opportunities. It sounds like a wonderful trip. I hope I can do it!
@catwoman2 -- that would be GREAT! @vankrey loves telling spooky stories and has been known to lead nighttime walks in the cemeteries (very different ones in Japan) . . . I can see the two of you leading a night walk together! Me? I'll hold the flashlight and make sure everyone makes it back!
@catwoman2 It would be great if you can join us! Please take a moment to go to our site and let us know your contact information through the "contact" page. That way I can add you to the list of those interested and keep you updated. If you're sure you'd like to join us, there is a "register" page as well where you can put down a deposit.
Will you guys be doing this next year too? It looks like something I'd love to do, but I'll need to save up for it. Cross your fingers in hope that I get a job soon. But you only have prices for 2. What about 2 adults and a child? My son is on this site too and I couldn't let him miss out!
@denvern8v - although Michael and I have taken 7? 8? trips to Japan with groups of 20+ teenagers over the last decade, this is our first trip for adults. For this particular trip, we limited it to adults over 20. But in the future, who knows? I think our biggest concern was being responsible for someone else's child who wasn't one of our students. We'll cross that bridge if we do another trip (which I hope we do), and if you three are interested (which I hope you are!) I do wish you good luck in getting a job, and soon!
@brian29 -- In Tokyo, I highly recommend Central Youth Hostel right in city center at Iidabashi Train Station. Book soon -- it fills up quickly. And enjoy Tokyo!
