Who is your favorite photography author?

'Tis the season when I actually have time for a little holiday reading, and I was curious as to who you would recommend as a favorite author about photography.

I recently ran a series about some of my favorite photography authors on my blog and found it was helpful to split them into two categories:

- Favorite authors for focus on broader ideas like composition, seeing, and the 'why' of photography: http://www.boostyourphotography.com/2013/12/authors-part1.html My favorites here are Michael Freeman and Freeman Patterson.

- Favorite authors for focus more on the technical or the 'how' side of photography: http://www.boostyourphotography.com/2013/12/authors-part2.html Some of my favorites here are Bryan Peterson and Scott Kelby.

Also, if anyone is curious, a group of us did a Photography Book Club last August and all read (and tried to implement ideas from) Freeman Patterson's "Photography and the Art of Seeing." You can see more here:

Thank you for the mention, Bulldog! I really appreciate it! Although I suspect Katie came at this from a different angle… ;-p But since we're on the subject, your own 'little people' stunts deserve a mention in that same regard. ;-)

Personally, I've got lot out of the books of Scott Kelby.

Ben Long - Complete Digital Photography now in its seventh edition. Absolutely everything covered it seems, the technology and how things work, the craft, the technique, composition, workflow, retouching, editing and printing.

Martin Evening - Adobe Photoshop CC for Photographers, and other Photoshop books. Absolutely everything you ever needed to know or not know about Photoshop.

Scott Kelby of course.
