Nikon replacement battery

I guess you get what you pay for. Has anyone else had this experience. The original battery for my Nikon 510 is still going strong while the cheaper knock-off replacements (from 2 different companies) have never held a charge.I'm biting the bullet and spending double to get a second battery I can count on.

@allie912 I have two non-Nikon replacement batteries. One seems as strong as the Nikon while the other does not hold a charge as long as the other two. I am guessing it's a bit of luck. But the Nikon is likely to be the most reliable. I tend to use the other two as backups and try to keep the Nikon version always charged (try...don't always succeed in being disciplined enough to do this).

@taffy the price of the knock-offs is so tempting but if you can't count on them, they are worthless.

@allie912 True...for my D90, I only purchased Nikon replacements, and never had a bit of trouble with them. With the switch to the 600, I tried the others. Definitely not as reliable.

@allie912 I have the D90 as well, and I ended up getting a replacement battery (Delkin Power) along with a new charger when I could not locate my original one. It seemed to be working fine for a while, but now it definitely does not hold a charge as well as the original battery. I keep it as a backup for short excursions, but I would not rely on it for longer trips. The original Nikon batteries are amazing; you can go for days on one charge!

For my Canon I have 5 spare (I use a battery pack that takes two batteries at a time) Duracell batteries. These are really good and half the price of the Canon. It does help that Duracell are a really reputable brand.

Personally, I've not had a problem with batteries by Bower for my D3100, D5100 and D7100. Perhaps I have just been lucky. 25% of the price of the equivalents from Nikon.
