Suggestions post-production how to book? (PSE 11)

April 21st, 2015
Hello,

Can anyone make suggestions for a book on post production techniques in PSE? I use PSE 11. I know there are videos on YouTube, but I'd still rather read, so I'm looking for an actual book. I was thinking about either the "Missing Manual" series or the one by Adobe themselves. I can use PSE in a very basic way, but I'd like to learn a whole lot more.

Thanks!

I don't know whether this still holds true but back in the day almost any title by Scott Kelby could be 100% relied upon. Try some of his YouTube material to get an idea of his style.

I have the dummies book, but honestly, I don't think I've ever used it. You tube, Adobe videos, playing around and some cheap/to free workshops are all that are needed. I'm a reader to, but they can't really explain as well as seeing it on video. The best way is really just playing around and moving sliders and pushing buttons.

I have PSE 12 and learnt how to use it using this book which I have read and re read. Great book. "The complete guide to Photoshops most powerful feature LAYERS" by Matt Kloskowski. It is not specific for elements but most of it is the same

@helenhelen and @runestone One of the books I was looking at is by both Scott Kelby and Matt Kloskowski, so that's a good sign..

Scott Kelby taught me everything I know about Photoshop/Elements but I must confess that I have all but entirely abandoned PS for Lightroom in recent years.

@runestone As with Beth, I have learnt more from Scott Kelby than all other authors combined. The way he organizes his books in one or two page mini-workshops works very well for me, I don't have to read page after page after page to get the point. And can really pick and choose a subject/topic at will at almost any point in the book and not have to rely on having read prior material. This is his Elements 13 book. http://www.amazon.com/Photoshop-Elements-Digital-Photographers-Voices/dp/0133990087/ref=sr_1_8?ie=UTF8&qid=1429676876&sr=8-8&keywords=scott+kelby+books

His five books on shooting rather than post-processing are also superbly presented and full of practical advice you can actually use.

I have the missing manual but hardly ever use it. I find that I have learnt more from googling what I want to do. Some fabulous youtube stuff out there.
