I'm lucky enough to be visiting Sydney for the first time shortly to see my son, who's living there at the moment. I'm just wondering if those in the know have any tips for the places where I should take my camera. I imagine that I'll want to be taking a shot every few yards, but you may have some good ideas of where I might find the less obvious pictures. Many thanks in advance for any suggestions you have :)
@pistache If you're into night shots take a ferry across the harbour from Circular Quay to either Kirribilli or Luna Park and shoot across towards Opera House with the Bridge in either foreground or background depending on which wharf you are on. This angle works well in daytime too. Enjoy the trip. @barb48
@pistache will you have time to catch up? I'd be happy to show you around. I love the beaches here, from the most popular ones like Bondi and Bronte (there's a breathtaking coastal walk from Bondi to Coogee. Another good one is going from the Spit to Manly), to the quieter and more secluded ones (Little Bay, Nielsen park and Milk Beach are favourites of mine).
I'd also have a stroll around the Rocks and check out the early settlement buildings there, like Cadman's cottage and foundation park. There is also a beautiful archway on the way that leads you to the bridge walk (yes, you can walk across the harbour bridge).
Great views from observatory hill too.
I hope you manage a day trip out of the big smoke to get a feel for Australia and the rugged nature that greeted the early settlers.
This is a must if you are in the city and it is quite close to the rocks - http://www.cityartsydney.com.au/artwork/forgotten-songs/ - they look good in the daylight and at night. There is also a very nice Asian restaurant and you can have dinner outside under the birdcages.
There is a Ferris Wheel at Darling Harbour and that looks nice a night if you like night photography. Last time we were in Sydney we got up very early and photographed Luna Park as the sun was coming up. The lights are still on at this time and it makes for a great photo.
Chinatown would also be fun to photograph, especially the windows of the restaurants. And of course there is always the zoo, those animals have the best view of the harbour and the city. Have a great trip.
hey Clare how long will you have here - if there is a plan to catch up with anyone 365ers let me know and depending on when you are here and the time you have I have some ideas:)
My recommendations would be to catch a ferry from Circular Quay to Manly, wander down to the beach and get the ferry back, go for a walk over the Harbour Bridge and around the Rocks and spend a day in the Blue Mountains - the 3 sisters is amazing.
@whimsicalgrateful@annied Well, having just talked about a dream Chicago team of Andie and Taffy, here's a Sydney one forming in the shape of Marta and Annie :))) How do we try to organise without boring other 365-ers? As far as I can see, there's no facility for private messages? Also, I think Elaine @elaine55 might be interested ... Would be lovely to meet up if we can make it happen. Thank you for the kind suggestions :)
Hi Clare have a look at this website they have a lot of ideas for photo spots around Sydney with explanations on how to get there and what time is the best etc. You can't go wrong with our harbour as a starting point. I hope you have a wonderful visit :) http://photographyhotspots.com.au/photography-locations-in-sydney/
