Canon EF-M 28mm f/3.5 Macro IS STM - any thoughts?

Just wondering if anybody has any thoughts on this innovative new lens recently announced by Canon? On the face of it, the price looks pretty good (£300/US$430 approx.)

I'd have thought 28mm (or 45mm full frame equivalent) a bit on the wide angle side for most subjects you might want to take with a macro lens.

It is, of course, for the new mirrorless EOS-M series, not the DSLRs. It seems a strangle length for a macro lens, albeit with the 1.6x crop factor of the APS-C sensor. Its light and 1.2x close focus are certainly interesting. It is image stabilized, also unusual for a prime lens this short; one might wonder if the novelties will be enough to shoot large and close primarily hand held with only f/3.5 max aperture. I wonder what "color" the light is and what effect it would have on the white balance decision. Need to see more reviews and sample galleries to comment further, but it is your only choice in the current limited M line of lenses if you want "macro."
