Tasmania

For my fellow 365ers who have been, or live in Tasmania. I'm heading to Tassie for 3 weeks in September. Are there any 'secret'or 'special' spots I should put on my wish list of places to see.

Guess it depends what you want to shoot here are some that might be of interest:

Cataract Gorge Reserve, Basin Road, Launceston, Tasmania, Australia
Museum of Old & New Art (MONA) - Hobart (not personally on my list, but is a big deal - but taking one of their boats along the Derwent was enough for me.
Salamanca Pl, Hobart TAS 7001, Australia
Freycinet National Park & Beaches - Coles Bay is a must and have lunch at the lodge!!
Wine Glass Bay - which you probably already know.
Latrobe, Tasmania, Australia - for the shops!

That's all I can think of right now - will come back if I can think of any more.

Hope you have fun and some nice weather!

The Bay of Fires -north of St Helens on the east coast
Richmond
South Cape Bay walk - the most souther point in Tas/Australia.
Cradle Mountain
Gordon River Cruise - Strahan
Westcoast Wilderness Railway - Strahan to Queenstown
The Nut - Stanley

no matter where you go in Tassie, I'm sure you will have a great time.
Enjoy your trip 😊

@leggzy Yes the bay of fires is great, I really liked the small towns, and the big logging trucks ,Wine glass bay and the walk down to the beach. I guess because it was so far from home for me it all looked different for me. You will love it Debbie, and take loads of pictures..

Most probably a Swiss girl is not the right person to give advice for a location at the other end of the world, especially since my trip to Tasmania was 20 years ago. But I have wonderful memories (also some terrible ones, due to a medical problem unrelated to the trip or the country) and would immediately travel back there. Everything already mentioned is awesome and would also be on my list. I would add also Tessellated Pavement near Eaglehawk neck a very interesting rare form of rock erosion and I would visit the Mount Elephant Restaurant, near St. Marys. The best pancakes I've ever eaten. Unfortunately, September it is likely too early for the stunning lavender fields. Looking forward to your pics.

Hi Debbie
I live up the north end of the state of the west side of the tamar river, it itself is beautiful on the right day, lots of wineries. there are a couple of roads that following the river side which are a nice detour drive time Launceston to Beauty Point is approx. 50 mins
One on my wish list & hope to do this year is the tulip farm at Wynyard opens 24th sept http://www.tablecapetulipfarm.com.au/

I love doing the national parks & do a bit of camping, they all have day or short walks to see the main attractions
Cradle mountain, a short drive from the info centre to dove lake & you are there
If you are in that area, Sheffield the town of murals is worth a look
Tasman Pennisula has fabulous coastline, I haven't done Port Arthur so I can't give you an opinion on it
The East Coast has stunning beaches & plenty of stop off towns on the way
You will a have a blast, it's good to see you coming for 3 weeks, I work in a hotel & a lot of the guests regret not staying longer as they didn't get to see what they wanted. You can drive around Tassie in a couple of days but that is all you do drive. Our weather in September is still a bit coldish so pack a woolly & jacket. Hope some of this helps if you need to know anything just give us a yell

Hi Debbie, I am reading this thread with great interest as I am going to Tasmania in October. I had the Tulip Farm (which only opens to the public one month a year) on my to do list. I am going to Bruny Island and up the West Coast. I look forward to your reviews and advice when you return as you may well discover some great spots worth visiting.
Enjoy your trip!

Hi there are so many beautiful places in Tasmania to and so. Cradle Mt offers a lot of day walks and there is some great photography opportunities up there. It would be one of my favourite places. The North West you have the tulip farm in late September, Arthur River do a lovely cruise, Stanley is beautiful and table cape area is very picturesque.
Hobart is lovely , they have a great market on a Salamanca Market on a Saturday which has some beautiful crafts. Mona is worth seeing. There is Mt Field National Park. Down from Hobart there is Bruny Island, The Tahune Air Walk, Ida bay railway, Hasting caves which are lovely. Maria Island is beautiful and there you can take some wonderful photos. You can camp over there or there is basic accommodation but you have to take food and bedding with you.
Port Arthur area is very historical if you are interested in history. there is some beautiful scenery down that way as well. East Coast there is Coles bay and you can walk to wine glass bay which is lovely walk. Lots of photo opportunities there. Bicheno is great, St Helens, Bay of Fires and then if you drive to Scottsdale the scenery on the way is lovely. Launceston has the gorge is worth seeing.
Their is certainly a lot to do and i hope the weather starts to become more settled for you when you come as we have had the wettest winter i think on record especially in the north of the state. Everything will look beautiful and green for you.
Enjoy our lovely state and if their is anything else you want to ask my email address is ianandgeorgieblake@gmail.com

Thank you all so much for the tips on Tassie. I'm very excited for my trip next month and will definitely be putting some of these beautiful spots on my list. I'm beginning to think that 3 weeks won't be long enough and I'll have to go back.

@gblake You're right Georgie... the Mona is definitely worth a looksie if you're not easily shocked lol. Some great (non-flash) photography moments so be sure to pack a tripod! And the Salamanca Markets are a must too. I can't wait to get back to Tassie myself!
