Image resizing

Hi, just wondering what image size and resolution other 365ers post their photos at on here? Thanks in advance!

You can upload what size you like, and 365 will store the original size, but only you can get at this file, no one else. Useful for another source of archiving. But 365 will only display at a maximum 1024 pixels on the long side. Downsizing like this appears to have gotten much nicer than it used to be, it used to be distinctly softening on the sharpening and clarity. So I used often to take charge, do my own 1024 version and sharpen it as I wanted to see it. Double work for sure, if you want to keep the final image "big" for possible printing.

I once read that posting at a smaller size was a type of protection against image 'theft' but then I found that 365 downsizes the image anyway. Another reason I used to downsize to 1280 was the time taken to load. However now I just load the image at its original size and sit for a few more seconds!

@frankhymus @quietpurplehaze thank you Frank and Hazel. I had been downsizing to 2048 i think and 72dpi but when it uploads it just looks soft. So i will try 1024 instead and see how that goes. Thanks heaps.

@hayleymaxwell

Hayley I admit I've never noticed any problems with my shots when downsized by 365. What I am conscious of is the different rendering of photos on our screens at home between main computer, laptop and iPad - the latter gives a very flattering look!

@hayleymaxwell If 2048 looks flat to you, 1024 will be even more so. You'll probably want to sharpen it yourself after resampling. The dpi number won't affect anything for internet viewing. The rendering device has a fixed "resolution, unlike a printer.

Funnily enough I wondered whether to resize for uploading as I keep going over my data limit and often my images are 4000 plus on the long side and I did resize a couple the other day but didn't notice any difference on here but I am thinking of changing my internet account to allow for unlimited use so it shouldn't be a problem.
