Can anyone help please. I'm very pleased with the prints I received from Photobox. BUT especially one of the prints was very dark and not like my edited version.
Why is this?
A few of my other edited shots were slightly different but especially the giraffe version was disappointing thankfully it was only a 7x5 version and not large.
It's most likely to do with your screen brightness and monitor calibration. The giraffe looks quite dark to me, but I've turned my screen brightness down which seems to help with editing for print. For photos where there are dark shadows it will be more noticeable.

The photo of yours is in the Adobe RGB color space, whereas most browsers and printers use something closer to sRGB. Adobe RGB is a "wider" color space (and technically better), but can look different on different devices, usually a bit darker and more washed out (though this depends on the colors used). So in general it's best to stick with sRGB for better consistency.
The difference between the two color spaces is probably the most likely cause of your darker print. The printer approximated the colors into colors it could use and so it turned out darker.
You should be able to set your camera to use sRGB rather than Adobe RGB in the menu for Jpegs if you use those as your output. Or in programs like Photoshop etc. choose sRGB as the proof/export color.
