I haven't taken any pictures yet today and it's killing me; every second ticks louder in my ears as I count down to midnight. I'm nine days in and I hate everything I've put up and second guess every creative decision I've made. Some of you are on your second year and I must bow down to you all. You're rockstars, each and every one.
I figure by March I'll have thrown my camera off an overpass
Don't be so hard on yourself! This is supposed to be fun! Maybe you're viewing this as something you "have " to do instead of something enjoyable. Taking a photo every day and being involved with others who do too can only help to make you a better photographer. Relax and enjoy - it's not a competition!
I have weeks like that. In fact, I'm having one now! All I can say to you is STOP!! Just post...and then go run around the block a couple of times, lol. You're going to have weeks where you'll second guess every single creative idea and photo you manage, I think everyone does. Just keep posting, it will pass.
@drongo3 - I hear ya. I think almost every day I don't break out the camera until after 11pm. Can't tell you how much I've started to loathe flash photography! I love when I'm chilling out late at night and my wife says, "So what's your photo today?". You would think it would be habitual for me now, but I still forget. To be honest it does on occasion become a chore, but I hammer one out. I won't be continuing with year 2, but envious of those that do tackle it. Hang tough!
the way i do it is i have fun. simple, but true. i don't stress over who follows me, or if everyone doesn't like my photo. i do put pressure on myself, but it's not about this site...i do want everything i take to be wonderful, but i know i am learning, and this site has helped me to improve soooo much. so i think of this as a really good thing. and one thing to remember is (and, it's true for everything in life) sometimes you're hot, and sometimes you're not. :) sometimes, everyone seems to love your work, and some days you just aren't feelin' it, but don't take it personally. oh, and i most certainly don't make myself feel bad (anymore) about not posting everyday, or using fillers. that's a silly thing to worry about, and this is my project, so i will do it how i want!
I have to agree with everyone! I was fine until about 200 pictures and then life really got in my way and I couldn't keep up anymore. Now I try not to stress if I'm missing days and I allow myself to use filler shots once in a while. It is still tons of fun for me though and if it wasn't, I would quit.
I know, I look around and go "is that good enough?" "what can I do to make that different?" a few of my pictures are re-hashing old photos.. but I'm always looking for that one thing that will make me go "ahh thats great!"
LOL!! this is a really funny post. I hope I'm catching the sarcasm that seems to be dripping from it...
I feel the same way as you! It's why I'm so addicted to this site. I find I look at things in what I'm calling "365 vision"... pretty soon you're going to be carrying your camera around in a camera bag/man purse so you can always get that shot. :)
Trust me, it's all worth it.
I guess for some of us, its our passion. what we love to do the most, so it becomes a natural routine in our lifes!. even though our children just hate it!!! 'no more photos mum!' lol
But I too look at others on here, and think gee, I gotta take an awesome photo today to keep up with everyone...
Yeah, I do inject a healthy dose of sarcasm into pretty much everything, but I feel the clock ticking at times. I suppose I thrive on the pressure and can't wait for the breakthrough I know this project will force in me.
I love it here. Thanks for being such an inspirational support group.
The picture you get throwing your camera off the overpass might be good, but why chance the single opportunity (probably 1-2 second timer/10 shots is best, depending on height of said overpass) for an awesome picture. I would take a picture of the overpass holding the camera. There's gotta be something interesting about it.
Doing something everyday does take some effort. Some days you will not feel like trying. Other days you'll have so many photos. Stick with it, take a picture of whatever you see and don't stress the quality. You'll be glad you took something. You're suppose to be learning something each day!
My concern is where I'm going to store all these extra photos. I'm gonna run out of space at the rate I am going.
I was crazy long before starting this project. Now my crazy is just beautifully photographed for the world to see! HA....oh crap...I haven't taken my today pic...
How I do it is simple.. I look at everyone else's photographs think these are awesome.. however when it comes to my own work I think about how I can better what I am doing at this time... How can I improve my skill and that's what I focus on =) Hope that helps a little
You need to give yourself a break, especially if you're just starting out. Actually, post some not so good photos, and then we'll all be really impressed with how much you have improved!!
Don't stress. Easier said than done, but I'm learning that this isn't supposed to be a stressful project. If you're waking up in the morning with a cold sweat about what you're going to photograph today... you're probably doing it for the wrong reasons. =)
Relax. Have fun. Experiment with your camera and get out there and shoot something you wouldn't normally shoot. Go someplace you've never been. Go see something you've never seen... and photograph it. Most importantly, have fun. =)
Hey Jeff, like what the rest say, don't stress out yourself. It's not worth it. The 365 project is suppose to be fun. If you aren't enjoying the ride, better take a deep breath and stop the project until it becomes enjoyable. And never put yourself in competition along the way; there are just better and worse photos out there. Just take photos and have fun!
That's my daily reminder I want to share with you.
@drongo3 Hahaha! That's exactly how I felt a couple of weeks or so into this project and now I'm 427 photos in with three albums. Just relax; not every photo can be a world-beater. I notice that some people take photos of their feet or a power outlet in their house or the television screen... just to make a daily photo. It doesn't matter. Some will be good, some will be not so good. Everyone here is so nice, whatever you do, you won't end up feeling anything but good about yourself.
I am only new to the project... today is day 12... I am just enjoying it and not stressing but to make it easier I am carrying my camera everywhere with me and I have found that I am seeing the world differently by doing that.... and I am taking photos at the strangest times, morning, afternoon and night.
The other thing that is helping me is... a list, when I see something that would make a cool shot but I have already got my shot I add it to my list and then when I am lost for a shot I check the list.
Now I seem to be doing fairly well at taking photos every day, but posting them in a timely manner is a different story. Thank you all for the kind words of encouragement.
Last year all my pics were taken with my Droid. A lot of them were just random pics to say I had a pic for the day. Others I am really proud of. It has made me so much more aware of things, sometimes that's bad and sometimes its good. I don't look too much at other people's photos. I don't want to be discouraged. I remind myself that this project is a journal of MY LIFE, MY YEAR and sometimes life sucks too. If something particular happened I take a photo to mark the date. Last year it was a picture of the brochure I was given while being prepped for gall bladder surgery. LOL
Don't stress over this! It's just a fun project and you make your own rules with it. If you don't have time to take a shot on one day maybe use one you took the day before that you liked. Remember beauty is in the eye of the beholder. All that matters is that you put up images that interest you whether is's an amazingly artistic shot or just a quick snap of something that just made you smile that day! This is my first year doing this and so far I am soooo lovin it!

We are all our own worst critics.

PS - I love the "how to" advice on throwing my camera off an overpass and still getting the shot. I've found my people.

What about pictures of sometime that happened that day or took up most of your time?
I even took a picture of my toilet seat because I was on it for a long time cause of a stomach virus! LOL
Don't dwell, just take the pics and move on.
