@vaderkip I just got sent that clip by some friends. Scary stuff - certainly gave me goosebumps, and not of the good kind. Thoughts are with are SE Qld neighbours.
besides the 8 dead and 72 missing, many of the missing are families with small children, it was like a tsunami :(
brisbane river has just burst its banks right at the CBD :( i just left there in time, home now to deal with al lthe water trying to come into our house :(( roads are cut everywhere.
I can't believe how bad it's gotten!! Apparently 2 of the 4 that were declared dead yesterday were young boys. It's so sad. I'm lost for words after watching that video! I knew cars were being swept away etc but to actually sit and watch them just floating away like boats is crazy.
I hope any QLDers on here are staying safe away from the worst of it! Take care too @taidster Fingers crossed it eases off soon so there are no more lost.
Friend of mine did his first year out of the police academy in toowoomba.
MIL did her uni training there, and we've been out a few times to go to the carnival of flowers. My first thought on seeing the footage on the news last night was "but toowoomba is ontop of a hill!"
Have a few friends not far from us who've been advised to seek high ground immediately, we've let them know they can head to our place. 15 minutes away but we're up a hill and have a high set. Husbands been sent home from work, just a matter of making it home before the bridges go under.
Husband is most of the way home, has a lot of traffic to deal with.
You know you're safe and dry (so far) when all you can think about is how unfair it is that you're not allowed to go look at the flooding.
Queensland police service just reported one of the ships has broken off it's mooring
This is a huge tragedy, evacuations under way in Brisbane right now, at least 6500 houses predicited to go under next 2 days. To get it in perspective an area the size of NSW is under water (or the size of California for the US members). Here on the Gold Coast there are flash floods and mud slides but everyone is safe. Haven't seen this scale of destruction since the 2004 tsunami in Indonesia. My thoughts and prayers with those effected.
I have just been watching it on the evening news. The devastation is unbelievable. The death toll has risen to 13 and 66 missing. And the worse is that the rain keeps coming. @bosschuster@cmt2812@paulines who I know are in Brisbane, may the next 24 hours be kind to you and I hope you are not in the areas that are expected to flood
To other 365er's in Queensland, know our hearts go out to you
Dreadful; will be a long time before we get over this. And now we're under the threat of flooding in northern NSW as the rain trough comes through our catchment area. Have just driven the car up onto the local bridge in case the village goes under during the night. Fingers crossed we don't get what Queensland has been getting.
@lynne3804 Thanks so much for your thoughts - I live on a hill so we are safe however my thoughts and prayers are with others who are in the flood zone. The authorities are saying on the news tonight that the worse is to come .... we can only pray that they are wrong.
