Hi. This is a thread for all of Newbies who started on 1 Jan. How are you all going? Three questions:
1) What has been the highlight of the experience so far?
2) Who are you following that others should know about?
3) What is your favourite picture you have taken?
1.) I think the highlight thus far is simply learning the discipline of taking my camera with me wherever I go. Learning about the times of day when certain shots are better than others. And opening my eyes and looking for things that I would probably otherwise pass by...
2.) Gosh, this is a tough one! There is so much heartfelt talent on this website right now... there are so many people I'm following right now that are amazing!
Before I answer I gotta say I've been having so much fun with this project. I'm so glad I came across it. I'm really excited for the months to come.
1. I'd have to agree with you Wiet. The sense of community here is unlike anyplace else I've seen on the interwebs.

1. The fantistic support and positivity of the "community". I think we could all benefit from a little more constructive criticism though. It's art and can be interperted in so many varying degrees based on perspective/experience, so we shouldn't be afraid to be offended or easy to offend.

It was freezing cold at 4200 feet when I took this one. But the clouds were awesome. I would pick the sunset (on 1/5 http://365project.org/jeancarl/365/2011-01-05) but I need to get away from those easy shots!
1) The "community" of it was unexpected. I thought I would slap up a pick everyday and that would pretty much be it. My experience has been positive so far, very friendly people here.
2)Well i think I am following a pretty diverse group.I would like to name them all but I am bad with names. Some names that I remember are Keith David, Jason Daniels, Candy N, & Heather F . Of course the last 2 are easy to remember, I have been learning from and with for a couple yrs now ;)
3) Favorite so far is this one, it seemed to make a few ppl laugh
1. I just really like the feedback given! Everyone has been really encouraging. I've been wanting to do 'something for me' for the longest time and this was a great opportunity for me to do so!

3. I really am happy with the pictures I've posted for the most part, but I'm still learning how to use my camera and taking what I've learned in previous photography classes and applying them. A few people mentioned they liked this one, so I'll go with it:
I'm no longer a newbie, as I have over 100 days in the project, but I read the thread and am amazed at all of the pics above--you're all doing fabulously! Great pics, all!

3. 1-9-11 marked the one year passing of a close friend. I am so proud that I was able to create something that honored her and a place that she loved so dearly.
1) What has been the highlight of the experience so far? Seeing several of my friends from another forum making the popular page :) It feels like I know someone famous or something lol.
2) Who are you following that others should know about? @lvmychunkalunka she has a P&S and takes better pictures than I do with my expensive DSLR.
3) What is your favourite picture you have taken? I am only 11 days in, but todays was my first SOOC shot, and I am proud of that. Normally I do quite a bit of PP work

1) I love being "forced" to constantly come up with something to shoot. It's a challenge, but it's also fun.

3) It's really hard to pick, but I love the warmth that comes through with this one:
I am waking up in the morning thinking about what pictures I will take today, what will make a good subject, where is some good light. This is a good habit to build up.
I like being challenged to take a photo each day, improve my skills, and looking for good subjects.
I am following 18 photographers. I learn a lot from Pyrrhula, Pete Van Allen, Sheri Peterson, and Bill Dodson. Sorry. I do not know how to provide their links.

This one is impossible b/c this black & white of my nephew is my favorite
BUT this one is probably my "best shot so far" & is definitely one that has recieved alot of comments both here & from friends irl as well as twiiter & facebook.
1) Cliche with everybody else, but the people here, an the feeling of being around so many other people with the exact same interest in what your doing, and some really awesome people, who give realy good advice, its like one big family!
2) Another cliche of this, to many people to name off just one or two!
3) This is my favorite, Under the Pavillion from the 1974 WORLD FAIR...oooooh ahhh, haha

1) The highlights have been the awesome community here and the boost this project has given my pleasure in photography. I was a bit stuck but I am really motivated to improve myself again.
2) Today I was struck by the photos of Heather Craig (@pixelchix), really lovely!
1) The highlights for me have been all the lovely comments and the friendliness of everyone I've spoken to so far. Also the chance to look at the photos everyone else is taking.
2) I'm following quite a few already, although I like photos that make me chuckle so karlphillipson and katiegc24 are two of my favourites, although every person I follow I've added as I loved their photos, so please take a look!

1) What has been the highlight of the experience so far?
Capturing a 'memory' of every single day! I love trying to find something that serves as a reminder for what I did or what was important that day all while trying to improve my photography & photoshop skills.

1) Being forced to look at things differently. In the past I've generally only taken pictures outside of nature and things like that. The bad weather at the moment combined with wanting to take a picture every day is great!

1) The highlight of the experience thus far has been the consistent joy I get from making creativity a staple of every day. I really look forward to the time I spend with my camera, and the time I carve out (sometimes too much!) to look at what other people are doing.
2) I am following some amazing folks: @travelingbabe hit her stride early with some amazing light photos @davidstanley is a friend of mine, and spending the year traveling asia. it's wonderful seeing new parts of the world through his eyes. @andycoleborn has a down to earth view of the world, and he's quite friendly

Getting to grips with my camera and steering away from auto mode has been brilliant for me. To do with the forum itself, I'm surprised what a great community it is and having someone fave one of your photos is wonderful!

I love that this project has given me a goal to work towards, that makes me pick up my camera every single day, and think creatively even when Im not in the mood. Ive already learned new things, and its great how everyone is so friendly and encouraging. Its hard to pick a favorite photo so far, I like a lot about most, and dont like at least one thing about them all (I also cant figure out how to post a photo in the discussions) :(

I think just being pushed to take a picture everyday is great and I have been inspired to do new things with photography to come up with some great shots. Not just taking pictures of my ADORABLE kiddos.

I am saying this one even though some of the pictures of my kids are more my favorite. This one is just a cool shot from an Idea I got off Pioneer woman's Blog. It was fun to take and pushed my imagination to take it.

Remembering how much I love taking pictures. It allows you to tap into your creativity and it makes you look at the world in a different way.

Favorite because it was spontaneously captured on my phone and with a little editing turned out really well.

i've had my camera for a few months, but last night, because of the chatter about different things on this site, i was brave enough to start messing around with some of the settings and shoot things in manual...i dont know that i would have done that without the conversations here.

i think this photo is my favorite because of the way the light and dark are creeping in in the corners, kind of emphesizing the message on the pin.

I am by no stretch of the imagination good at photography, but it is something that I enjoy so I really don't care about the skill.
I've enjoyed how all my friends and family have encouraged me by trying to share some inspiration. So far they all seem to think it is a good idea, but that they couldn't ever keep up with it. We'll see in a few months, because if I can keep up with it anyone can.
I haven't found many people to follow yet, but I need to start looking. Good inspiration is out there, I just need to find it.
1) my highlight has been making time to fit in a hobby that would normally only happen in school holidays and maybe weekends. I've also enjoyed trying to find things in the house to photograph due to some pretty poor weather and me going to and coming home frm work in teh dark!

Carrying my camera more. So often I've seen something and thought lovely photo and because I'm carrying my camera I've actually got the shot.

For me the highlight has been the chance to share my love of photography with so many wonderful people. The person I am following that you all should look at would be Autumn Eden. My fave picture so far is probably this one of my 3 year old son with his blocks.

I used to think I took a lot of pictures, but I’m finding it’s a real challenge to take a picture every day! Looking at other people’s photos has inspired me to try harder to capture better images.
2) Who are you following that others should know about?
This is my favorite photo I've taken since I started on the 3rd. I think the one person I've met people need to follow is deesdiscoveries. She is an incredible photographer. I've seen her pictures outside of this site and they are amazing. What I love most about doing this is thinking outside the box. It's challenging to find a photo...and intimidating as well. You want to take a good shot, but sometimes what you think works in your head...doesn't come across thru the lense. Then there is the 'eh..I'll just take it type picture..and WOW...it comes out beautiful. I am so glad I took the challenge to do this..the good, bad and ugly of photography!
I am enjoying the project so far... I really like to take a critical look at life as it goes by capturing the precious moments around me...

1) What has been the highlight of the experience so far?
I'm trying to expand my mind by looking at things from a different point of view - sometimes, it seems that we are becoming more polarized in our thoughts, so it has been good (and challenging) for me to think about seeing something differently, or reflecting on a different perspective and coming up with a corresponding picture.
2) Who are you following that others should know about?
A photo by Shannon Pitton is the one that got me started, and I continue to enjoy seeing what she is doing.

I still really like my first photo for the angles and different perspective...
1. So far, the highlight of my experience is that I am more confident with my work because I've realized that no matter how uninspired or seemingly bland my picture is, someone out there will like it (hopefully) and realizing that I'm only getting better (:

3. I couldn't decide between two, but this one is from today (January 12) and I could say it's one of my favorites:
i have found this really challenging, but really enjoyable! I am only using my Samsung Galaxy phone and find that I am constantly looking at my day to see what will best represent it! The highlight has been the encouragement I have recieved from others to complete this.
My favourite picture I have taken so far is one I took of my grandson as he was drawing for me. It may not be the best photo but it's my fave!

The highlight for me has breaking my previous project365 attempts! I don't think I've ever gotten past day 5 before.

This one took me more effort then the others but I'm really pleased with the background, the lighting (the flare of sunlight in the top right), the stray dog and the angle.

I love my camera. I haven't been very good about picking it up. Since I started 365 - I have used my camera every day. BIG bonus!

The highlight has probably been getting inspired to go out and explore the world with a lens. And although I haven't gotten a great deal of feedback (from people I don't know), I'm finding it to be really gratifying looking back on my collection.
2) Who are you following that others should know about? @lauren211 ; I don't know her at all, but all her photographs are incredible. @timinozi ; I'm not biased because he's my boyfriend, all his photos are really amazing.

Right this second I'd probably say this one, but it changes all the time.

I have enjoyed these first two weeks. I decided to capture the people in my life, so at the moment I am just taking snaps. However, itives me an excuse for a social life. When nothing else is happening, I have my grandchildren to fall back on. One of my favourite shots is my grandson Hudson.
1) What has been the highlight of the experience so far?
I'm excited about how much I've learned in such a short time. I'm doing two projects, one personal life and one group project that has weekly theme assignments. Looking forward to the skills I'll gain with this project. I'm so excited I have 3 albums.

1- For me the highlight of the experience has been using my camera everyday and knowing that the need for new picture to post can really create wonders.

1) Just 'seeing' the world around me through different eyes, trying to capture and looking at the amazing work here on 365! I feel so little compared but I am learning and will improve.

I didn't actually start on the first but I played catch up before I realized what this site is about. So I left it as is:
1) What has been the highlight of the experience so far? I would have to say it has been trying to stick to the commitment to be inspired about capturing SOMETIHNG daily. That has been a real challenge for me that I have not always mastered unfortunately :( However my purpose in the future is to do better with it!
2) Who are you following that others should know about? I would definitely have to say two of my very favorite are @amyhughes and @kellyhaysley they both so inspire me and put out excellent work!!!

i'm not trying to do anything special. i'm far from a photographer and i don't aspire to be one. i just have a hard time committing to things so i figure documenting my day to day life is a good way to start. all my pictures are taken on my camera phone. i have a camera, i just like my camera phone. it's always with me and i can snap a picture any time i want. i love all my pictures. they give a little insight into who i am.
1) What has been the highlight of the experience so far? I find myself seeing a great picture where I never would have thought to take a picture before! I love it!

I joined on Jan. 7th. I almost always have a camera with me and take photos on a fairly regular basis. 1. I started a few days into 2011, actually, but I'm having a blast. So far, by total accident, I have only taken photos of vehicles! Seemed as good a theme as any.
My favorite shot was actually the only one I took on an iPhone, even though I really prefer a camera with better resolution!

I started just a few days after the 1st - however I am finding it awesome! The hardest thing is remembering to take images every day though. Finding the random and weird is hard :)
