i would like everyone to know how amazing Kate and her husband have been to our family.
so everyone knows, i live in Brisbane, Australia, and we are going through the most disasterous flooding even in this state in living history.
Kate so very kindly offered a place to stay for me and my family, including my pets, after seeing a post of mine just before the flood waters came in. we almost didn't get into contact due to power outages and 365 being the only way to contact each other at that point.
i need to say here, we did not know Kate before this, even on 365, it was a kind offer to a complete stranger ...
thankfully the power was restored at Kate's house and Kate and her husband have been so much more generous that i can even say in helping us get through this.
i just wanted everyone to know how amazing some people are in this world, because we would have been sleeping in our car if it were not for Kate, as we were cut off from all evacuation centres throughout the city and also all of our friends' houses who had offered assistance.
we have lost almost everything we own, and our house contents insurance does not cover for flooding in this state, not very nice of the insurance company...we will see what happens, maybe they'll take pity on the tens of thousands of affected people.
but, we are safe and dry and fed, and so very grateful :))
Glad to hear you are safe and that great Aussie tradition of lending a mate a hand (even if you don't know said mate) is still alive and kicking. @cmt2812 Kate, you are such a wonderful person for doing this!
Not so nice of the insurance company though!
Many of the cafes and shops here in Perth have collection tins out for the Flood Appeal. I donated what I could yesterday and thought of you. I hope life goes back to some form of normality for you soon.
wow Tadii, I will pray for you and your family that you will soon see the other side of this. This is a wonderful story, and how generous you are Kate!
This is one of the many reasons that 365 ROCKS!! I'm so glad that you and your family are safe! I have been praying for all affected by the horrible flooding. @cmt2812 Just amazing and heartwarming! What a wonderful thing for you to do :D
what an amazing story of how 365 has bonded all of us strangers together. i'm astounded by her act of selflessness and generosity. and i am so very sorry for all you've lost. it is an absolute tragedy. praying for you and your family.
I've said this on your photos but I'll say it again anyway.
So SO glad that you and your family are safe and even though you've lost so much there are people out there so willing to help a complete stranger.
It's an amazing thing you've done Kate, I'm sure Tadii will never forget it and you've both just made great new friends.
I daresay because so much has been lost and so many people will be stuck without homes because it was a flood (which is ridiculous BTW) that the insurance companies will do something about it.
@cmt2812 and her husband- your generosity is truly humbling. There's no getting over the fact that this is a huge tragedy, with so many affected...but your supportive act does give some comfort. Tadii, my sincerest wishes that you and your family rebound quickly.
Wow. Thank you for sharing this. I am so sorry for all you have lost, but am thankful to read a story like this and of the good people out there.
Thoughts are with you.
Wow, so nice to hear of the wonderful, good people in the world, instead of just the negative! I'm so glad you came in contact with Kate and her family, and are at least hanging in there. Wishes for your family and Kate's, for all good things in the coming days and weeks!
This kindness is just a reminder that all is not lost in the world. Proud to call myself An Aussie today when I read this post. Good on ya mate!!
The flooding in Australia is horrible no doubt about it, and its all down the east coast. Parts of Vic are under water also, with flooding already in Country Vic.
But WITHOUT trying to take anything away from this tragedy, I would like to send prays out to the people of Brazil. So far in just two days they have had major flooding in parts there and as of today they have reported over 400 odd people confirmed dead, with the toll to rise as the clean up begins.
I hope the rain stops soon for everyone..
It is wonderful to hear that there are still such kind spirited and good hearted people out there! Thank you for sharing this story with us all. @cmt2812 This generous act of kindness and compassion show that you are a truly special person!
@fillingtime . Yeah I read the story from the age.
We had a freaky snow storm on Tuesday, and since Tuesday night, it has rained over 24 hours straight. Flood warnings here also, but not as bad as what is happening else where.. Sad sad sad..
Thank you Tadii! I'm blushing! But what we are doing is not extraordinary in this city today. I have heard that 20,000 people have registered as official volunteers to help with the clean up. Driving round my suburb this morning, damaged houses were being cleaned by dozens of people. Whole families are just walking up with shovels and brooms and offering to help. Others are arriving with drinks and refreshments to hand out to workers. It is wonderful to see the community coming together and to see the strong leadership shown by our top politicians and local mayors. It is also reassuring that the infrastructure of the city is coping well with the disaster. We truely are lucky to live in Australia.
Glad to hear that you are safe and my heart goes out to you ... I have friends over there also severely affected and it breaks my heart that you are all going through this :(
@cmt2812 - What an amazing woman you are. Its nice to know that in a time of need people are there to help each other. We have heard some terrible stories over here in New Zealand from my friend of piliging, riots and even people exploiting those in need so this is refreshing to hear. *hugs* and may you be super blessed for the kindness you have shown!
@taidster So sorry to hear and see your house impacted by the floods. So glad you are safe and dry right now. I will keep your in my thoughts as you are going through this disaster. @cmt2812 What great kindness and generousness for a fellow 365 friend. So heartwarming. Wishing you all the best right now.
Tadii, I saw this getting around on Facebook, not sure if you lost any photos or know anyone that did but just in case...
To save any photographs damaged by flood waters, immerse them in clean fresh water and get them to Inkjet Lab at Bowen Hills ASAP. They will clean, copy and save to disk for you at no charge. An amazing service! Good on you Inkjet Lab!
@cmt2812 Onya Kate! @taidster Really sorry to hear about your flood damage - that's really severe. Quite a few of our friends are in the same situation, there's a lot of work to do from here on in.
@cmt2812 This is such an amazing story. I have seen many acts of caring and prayers on this site. To open your house to a family is fantastic...I left some comments on your post but we are all thinking of you across the world. @taidster your family are most important but I am sorry for the loss of your home...good luck to everyone.
Wow, this is really a great story. I hope you guys are all OK and that things start to get sorted for you soon. And thank you Kate for looking out for a fellow 365er. At least that's a positive for you both - a new friend. :-)
@taidster I am so sorry to hear you have lost everything but I am so glad you and your family are safe. I had an inkling it may have been you staying with @cmt2812 , such a wonderful thing to do. I hope the insurance companies feel the pressure from the government to pay out and help you replace some of your things and hope you managed to save some of your precious items. (((Hugs))) to both of you and your families xx
If you have any family photos that have been damaged by flood waters in Brisbane, we would like to help.
It is very important to keep your photos wet in clean fresh water until you get them to us. This will stop them sticking together.
They'll clean, scan and copy them to disk for you for free.
Phone Mark on 0421 599 423 to arrange a tim...e to drop them in. http://www.inkjetlab.com.au/home.php
Such a beautiful story! I suppose if there's something positive to be said about tragic situations, it's how the good people in the world rise to the occasion and shine. My thoughts with all affected by the devastating flooding.
That's awesome--I love reading posts like this (not about the flooding but somebody's kindness!) Thank you for sharing that--it brightened up my day! So glad you are safe and dry.
@cmt2812 Your kindness overwhelms me and brings tears to my eyes. 365 has been the catalyst for many new friendships but this is an extraordinary thing you have done.
Tadii, I'm glad to hear that you and your pets are okay. So saddened to hear of the catastrophic loss. Being so far away, I feel so helpless. Don't hesitate to ask for anything I can do to help.
@taidster Tadii, so sorry to hear what has befallen you and the trauma of losing everything. I cannot imagine how this must feel. So glad that Kate came to the rescue. Lovely recognition of that. It's so heart warming. May your troubles be dealt with quickly. Thinking of you.
@cmt2812 Good on you. What goes around comes around. You have done a great thing.
What a beautiful story, I am so sorry to hear everything that you are going through . . Kate you are an amazing person, what an amazing community this 365 has.
teary eyed after reading this...how generous and heart-warming. so glad you are safe...prayers are being said for you and you family, as well as for Kate and hers. What a wonderful group of people we have here :)
Wow. Glad you are safe and sorry about your lost. what a touching and hope giving story.
It is so heartwarming to know that there are people like Kate.
@cmt2812, Kate I am not surprised at your generosity, because your warmth and friendship has come through in the many comments made over the past year, but you are a special person, because not everyone would open their home to a almost stranger.
@taidster, i am so sorry to hear you have lost everything, you will slowly rebuild and wishes and good will of all Australians are with you.
@cmt2812 You are a true Australian Kate, We need more people like you, especially in such hard times!
@taidster
Glad to see you are okay! I am so sorry about the flooding up there, Everyone down here in NSW is trying to donate as much as possible to help you guys out!
I'm so sorry for all of your loss, but the post is very uplifting at the same time. Thank you for sharing and I'm wishing you the best with recovering and replacing your losses.
THANK YOU to you all for all your wonderful comments :) 365 has become such a wonderful place and of course now i get to sit here and say "where would i be without 365?" and i dread to even consider it :-/
@fillingtime @blooddropcookie
thank you so much for donating for flood victims, it is going to be SOOO needed, and by SO many.
@pixelchix heather thank you so much for your wonderfully kind words :)) really thankful for your offer, your so kind .. can't direct message on here, but can on flickr, my link is in my profile here :)
@sytse kathleen thank you so much for your offer :)
@natandhayley nat thanks so much for that, i'd heard about it but you had specific details which is fantastic ... i've passed it along on facebook, and also to everyone else in my street who was affected, many of them have their photos muddied etc so are following the instructions. my scrapbooking stuff (where all my photos are) was on the highest floor in the house and was all saved, thank goodness becuase i'd forgotten about them :-/
@charli321 oh charli thanks so much for putting the link on here, i know there's one through yahoo7.com.au but this is the direct one for the government appeal, probably a better idea :))
@cmt2812 and kate, again, words just cannot describe how amazing you truly are :)))))))))
UPDATE:
we have some saved furniture, beds and couch and coffee tables etc and been able to have them removed from the stench of the house and put into storage ... i had volunteers from my work (govt) come around to help out, and one of them had a "mate" with a HUGE big truck with soft curtain sides with easy access who was SO happy to come and help out and move to the storage place for us.....the storage place had advertised through the radio that they were providing one month free storage for flood affected people, so that was just a $15 admin fee, outstanding.
the house is unlivable, and i can't see how it won't be torn down, it is VERY damaged inside ... our real estate agent had no other rentals for us to move into now, but they do have one avail 4th feb, and they've cancelled all applications for it and have let us have the lease there .... its a little further away from work, BUT its cheaper and its NEW (just a few yrs old) so YAY for that.
yesterday was the most busiest day thoughout the city with a mass cleanup starting, our street was like peak hour traffic, you could not move ... there were people not affected by the flooding, providing coffee, cold drinks (because it was a stinker of a hot day), sandwiches, freshly baked cakes, freshly baked cookies, freshly baked muffins @cmt2812 and then there was the mountain of volunteers attending any affected area just to walk in and help pull out all the sludge and sludged up furniture and rubbish. of course there are the sticky beaks just driving through to "leer" at the unfortunate, but all the others make up for that, people are just SO WONDERFUL
:))
oh oh oh, and for those who know who she is, GERRI is alive and well ... we didn't see her but we went back last night and left food out for her, and this morning it is gone and there's fresh possum poop and possum pee pee left behind YAYYYYYYYS :)) we are going to miss her though :( and baby joey :(
I am so pleased that you have found somewhere to rent as I have heard stories of how difficult it is with the demand and that it is pushing prices of rentals up. I am thinking of you often and spoke to my family of what you have been through when we were out yesterday and also of your experience with @cmt2812. I am really pleased to hear about Gerri!!!
So happy to hear all your good news. It's really nice to see that our communities can still come together to help each other out when we need it. Glad to hear Gerri is OK too :-)
Tadii, so glad to hear that things are starting to sort themselves out; without the wonderful Kate it would have been so much harder. And hurray for Gerri and joey!!!
At the news yesterday (in Denmark) they show pictures of a lot of volontiers who wants to help where it will be needed. It makes me so happy to see that. Hopefully we never have a simular experience, but if it should happened I really hope my citizen are as helpfull as yours.
Good luck to you all down there, I really hope for you that you never will go through this again.
Wow - I had just read a depressing news article and then got to this post. It's so great to hear that there is still such a thing as complete, utter kindness. Well done to you Kate. Good luck with the new place Tadii and sorry for what you've gone through.
God Bless you Kate for your loving and caring heart. Blessing also Tadii and your family things will begin to look up for you soon too. You really are one of the lucky families that you were chosen by Kate & Stu.
This is quite a heartwarming story.... so glad that you are safe and sound. Just when you start to lose hope in the kindness of strangers they show you just how kind and generous they can be. :)
I am so sorry to hear about your losses but am grateful to hear that you have been so well taken care of. This is one extraordinary community and I am grateful to be a part of it!
@taidster Thank you for sharing your story. I am so grateful you were able to salvage some of your belongings. I can't even imagine what you are going through. Cheers to @cmt2812 Kate you are truly an amazing person. And cheers to all of those who were able to pitch in and help out. It gives me hope for humanity. Sending warm healing thoughts your way.

I hope your insurance comes through. Pesky policy definitions. :(

@taidster, Jenn and I would love to help. Perhaps a PayPal account where we can make a donation or something?
