Albums - Three or More

January 25th, 2019
I am sure there is an obvious answer but cannot work it out. Looking at other members albums where some had quite a few albums, I started adding some myself - Landscape, Architecture Seascapes, Sill Life etc only to see after I had pressed the SAVE button that there was a restriction of 3 albums. So my question is "How have other members got more than 3 albums?"

You start with three and then gain an extra album each year that you renew your Ace membership. Those with lots of Albums have been members for a long time.

Crikey - Only one extra album per year of rejoining. Why so low.

@followthatdreamphotography I suppose because it's a one a day photo website so it minimises your uploads??? Other websites have multiple uploads to multiple albums but here it's about one per day per album- which is very good for exercising judgement (or not) for your one for the day!!

@30pics4jackiesdiamond - I cannot see it being a "one photo per day" website as anyone who may miss out on getting their 365 photo posted for whatever reason would never be able to catch up.

I can understand restricting to avoid any old thing being uploaded, but I think a bigger option of albums with a restriction on one photo per day within any of a members albums outside of the default 365 album would be very beneficial.

That would restrict members from posting loads of photos everyday (max of 2 including 365) but at least it would allow members to have their favourite genres covered as best as possible. If I follow someone and I suspect they excel at a certain genre, it would be good to then be able to look at that persons photos neatly located in a specific folder.

There are so many genres covered within photography and being restricted to two more albums can make it difficult to know what to go for in the initial setup and having an album called "anything else" or "others" to cover such a variety is simply just ...a bit of a jumble to a viewer.

This is a one photo a day website Michael, that is the joy of 365. If you forget to post it is possible to backfill. Perhaps Flickr might be more for you?? But I hope you stay as it's so friendly on this site as you will find.

@30pics4jackiesdiamond It is actually three a day if you choose to be an Ace member. As I see it if everyone posted three a day that would be three times as many photos to view and comment on which could become tedious. Not everyone comments on all the photos of all the people they follow though.

@grammyn hi Katy, Thanks for that correction, I was responding to @followthatdreamphotography comment "I cannot see it being a "one photo per day" website".

I now have three albums and feel slightly guilty, and selfish, if I load up three in a day, so do it very very rarely, which is why third album has an apology in its title.

I do follow a couple of people who've been on 365 for years, never become Ace, so only one album, and do a shot a day! Such discipline!! :)

@followthatdreamphotography @30pics4jackiesdiamond @grammyn A further clarification, Michael. It's only one photo can be posted to any one day's slot on a particular album. So, as Katy said, if a person is an ace member with three albums (or more) they can post as many photos TO THAT DATE as they have albums. But if a person is behind in posting, whether a day or two, or a week or more, or a month, there is no restriction on how many you can upload at a time (only common courtesy to not flood your followers' feeds too severely). They just have to be posted to different slots -- one per date, per album. If you go to the monthly view, you can easily see that it wouldn't accommodate more than one image in any one spot. I hope that helps

I believe the extra album per year for Ace Members was originally introduced for users (like me) who like to have a fresh album for each calendar year. Personally, I enjoy the picture count increasing from 1 to 365 every year.
365 albums are more akin to additional calendars rather than the folder/gallery concept of sites like Flickr or SmugMug.
I think part of the appeal and longevity of this site is that everyone is on a daily journey together rather than it being a 'portfolio dump' for want of a better phrase.

Most people tag their photos so if you want to look at a particular user's shots by type, you can often filter them that way.
The format is: https://365project.org/*username*/tags/*user-tag*

For example, all of Ingrid Budge's long exposure shots: https://365project.org/ingrid2101/tags/long-exposure

Obviously not everyone tags their shots, but that's probably a good indicator they wouldn't file by type into genre-specific albums either. ;)

@mcsiegle Thanks Mary. Having posted a photo to my 365 Album and a photo to my Other Album a few days ago, I knew that it could not possibly be a "one photo a day website". Of course if that was indeed true, and the fact that this site is predominantly a 365 site for members to post one photo per day for the project, that would somewhat negate any reason to offer additional albums.

That aside, my concern or perhaps disappointment for want of a better word, is not the restriction of allowing just three photos to be uploaded, but the inability of being able to compartmentalise photos into several genres.

Personally, if I find a member who specialises in a few genres that I like and I decide to follow them, looking at all their photos within the respective albums would be very beneficial. But just because a member may have six albums available to them, does not automatically mean they would post a photo to every album, every day. And I am sure that if a restriction on albums can be put in place that a limit of three photos per day to any album could be introduced.
