Most people on this site are very positive and helpful, but I just received a rather rude comment on one of my photos ( http://365project.org/aprilrss/365/2011-01-13). How does everyone deal with these types of comments? Do you delete them or just ignore them? I can understand constructive criticism but I felt this one was going too far.
I've got one today as well, from the profile following this one - looks like it's just a troll. I can't decide whether to leave it to show what an idiot they are or delete it.
2.) Ignore it. Obviously just a "angry young man" teen who listens to too much Eminem. Reply back and you just fuel them. Ignore them and they go away.
I'm sorry to say it, but recently this site is becoming full of "people" that don't need to be here. It used to be for photographers. I guess these goofs are getting bored with MySpace and XBox.
@mrspitts09@minxymissk@whitwhit
Yeah I'm sure it's just someone being dumb. It just makes me mad because this community is so great and I hate that people come on here and mess with people.
@moncooga I know, I joined at the beginning of December and I never saw any of these "people" until recently. Personally I don't understand how putting down other people's work is fun or entertaining but it seems like people enjoy it for some reason.
It happens.. it sucks but it does.. this is only the second time I've heard of this going on since September.. don't be discouraged. Ross is always to the rescue and 99% of all 365ers are def. not like that. Just some shmugg being stupid.
@aprilrss My guess is that they will get bored once the cold weather breaks, and return to playing "Ding Dong Ditch" in their neighborhoods. I'm not losing sleep over them.
Just ignore it and continuously do what you love to do... although this is the reality there are really people like that... but never ever let them make you feel bad about your work.
@bonniebouman I had Percy comment on two of my pics. One comment mysteriously disappeared but the other one I deleted myself. I guess one of the moderators deleted the one.
from my experience of people complaining about rude comments I first look at their profile pic and then go 'ok'. Glad to say I put up ugly enough profile pix and have NEVER had any rude comments despite some of the 'art' shots I've done. Perhaps that is something to consider?
The other thing is - DELETE! and if they persist get onto the moderator.
Focus on your work and art, and the people here who support you because they share your passion. Trouble makers are here for the wrong reason and ultimately will get bored and move on.
I didn't get to read the comment, but anything that isn't constructive and just plain uncalled for deserves to be deleted/ignored. You are super talented; don't let one person bring you down! :-)
@poggy1818 I didn't read it either... but I am sure it said something like... "Dear Photog, you missed the focus on this B&W image, you camera is not very sharp. Plus the colours are all wrong, I cannot see any Red, Blue or Green. I think you need a faster lens to really get the warm tones up. The image just sucks... it makes you look all sick and hazy"
Wow, my sarcasm is very weak tonight... sigh... any ways...
To the OP... you did right or Ross did, just delete it. Judging by people's reaction it was a mean comment... keep at it... one day if you get really famous perhaps you can be lucky enough to have mean things written about you in the "New Yorker"
@bonniebouman ...lol... I don't know whether Percy the Tank... is the rude one that we are all talking in here... but yes indeed I gave him a word of thanks to Percy the Tank... lol
I had a rude comment as well today. Apparently this Percy person felt the urge to tell me that my lovely children are ugly.
I sent Ross a mail about it. I'd hate other parents to get the same kind of remarks.
Reading this comment did make me feel a bit bad but luckily I'm secure in the knowledge that my children are in fact the most beautiful creatures on earth ;)
@aprilrss yeap that's about it ... it's not rocket science nor is it anything new, so watch how you're marketing yourself to the audience. I have no idea how old you are but your profile pic is marketing your 'chest' area to the audience accentuated by holding on to the necklace. It screams wanting ... it's basic psychology and analysis of the media presented.
@misschuff Well, I'm not too sure whether I agree with that. Looking at my own profile picture I see absolutely no reason for targeting me. There's nothing in my profile whatsoever that can be seen as offensive to anyone. Still I got targeted.
April, it's not your default. The World of Warcraft server is down on Tuesdays, if I'm not mistaken. Thus, there are thousands upon thousands of bored teenagers/adults with nothing better to do.
@misschuff Wow, that was not my intention at all when I took that shot. I wasn't trying to accentuate my chest, my self-portrait was entitled "Faceless" so my face is cropped out but that doesn't mean I was trying to draw the attention to my chest. I don't think that means I was opening myself up to harassment or something either, many people on this site take and use pictures of themselves in different ways, it's part of the art of photography.
@indiannie_jones Haha thank you Annie! I was beginning to worry that people might get the wrong idea about me because of my default :( I just took a self portrait that I liked so I used it as my profile pic.
Your profile picture is lovely, April. Don't worry about what other people think of it or how you 'market' yourself on 365. Let them keep drinking their haterade. Keep smiling and doing you.
@aprilrss Good job....way to defend yourself !!! I love your profile pic. @halkia@meggageg@indiannie_jones And anyone else I may have missed. Thanks for speaking up.
Hello all! I too have fallen face to someones harassment. @Sunshine Is the users name. They are just rude and are on here , like others said for the wrong reasons. I reported them and are hoping that they will be booted from 365. They have no pictures of their own which makes me beleive they are on here just to mock others. However you know what!? I will take their envy as a complement! Keep on shooting wonderful shots and do not let others take the joy of it away from you.
@aprilrss You have the right to dress any way you want and to photograph whatever you want without being threatened or insulted. You didn't do anything wrong.

Personally I don't think there is any place for the mword here.

If it keeps up, I'm out.

@lislee75 Thanks, I will let him know!
But don't let this discourage you!
I say we lynch 'em all.. lol

@scrivna Thank you so much!
