Found a grid for critically commenting from ILP forum in their JSO section ...
So instead of saying 'nice' consider the below extensions of what is/makes it 'nice'.
Regarding Camera Control:
Focus
Properly Exposed
Face - Close-up/Profile
Head and shoulders
Three quarter body
Full body
Environmental (use of surroundings)
Eye contact
Rule of Thirds
Expression (smiles, frowns, laughs, relaxed)
Interaction
Good Composition (subject NOT centred, leading lines, framing, no horizons/trees/posts in the middle of heads)
Unique angle/pose
Unique subject (hands, feet, etc.)
Chopped limbs/fingers – (goal is 100% none)
Full sun
Shade
Backlit
Post Processing Issues:
Silhouette
Appropriate cropping
Color casts
Blowouts
Excessive negative space
Eye pop
Eye whites actually white
No halos
Subtle color pop only/Clean processed
I had to look both those acronyms up, so I'll translate them here to save other readers doing the same! ILP = I Love Photography / JSO = Just Starting Out
I like the focus of your post. I feel we would be making eye contact if we were having this discussion face to face, you know up close. You've got a good angle on the subject that hopefully will lead to some great interaction.
Ok...I'm done. Sorry, but "nice" was already taken. Very good suggestion.
@hjbenson I am a member of the said forum and got it as a member ... so I can't answer that for you if you a non-member. I suggest you go through the forum and search but this list is derived from CCing a portfolio. Or make you own up?
Did that help at all?
@bonniebouman cheers I didn't want to openly advertise another forum on this wonderful community.
@jasonbarnette well come on over and lets get this conversation started ... sounds like a song.
I like photos that I can relate to and also move me in some way and I comment about how the photo does either of those things as well as what I like about the composition.
This is very informative! Thanks @misschuff! I'm afraid I'm not descriptive enough, but this list helps to give more detailed feedback other than 'nice.'
Sorry, couldn't resist
Yeah, ditto Andy's comment -- "Nice."

*Truth be told, I'll still be happy with a "nice". ;)
