I came home from school (I teach at a middle school) a tad bit frustrated today, not because of my students mind you, but because of a certain colleague who blatantly tries to make others look inferior. I'm sure my blood pressure was off the charts. Anyway, the first thing I did when I walked into my house was retrieve my camera for comfort. That led me to this topic.
Complete this sentence: You know you're addicted to photography (or 365) when...
You know you're addicted to photography when you have a bad day and the first thing you do is grab your camera and start shooting away as a means of comforting your soul (and lowering your blood pressure).
Ahh the number of beautiful moments I've been having that I've ruined by taking a picture of something happening, though to be fair it's liable to happen when I'm out shooting.
*I realize I tried to justify my addiction while admitting it, which leads to a whole new line of inquiry... May need help.
... you plan a day when you are going to get up at 4am simply to get a photo of the sun rising over the sea.. and then write it in your calendar. (sorry, I had two! :P)
...people ask you why you DIDN'T bring your camera.
...it takes you twice as long to drive home from work when there's a beautiful sunset.
...the group you're walking with is suddenly 400 yards ahead of you. And they don't realize you're even missing....
...your eyes have adjusted to the magnification factor of your camera and your regular glasses seem blurry now. (true story, sadly)
... you spend an hour lying in the middle of a fairly busy road trying to get the right angle on a road sign, when the sunlight is at exactly the wrong angle to get a photo any other way.
(sorry, I had three. But only because I wanted to show this photo.. this is what I did to get one of my shots from this week.. I had to pass the camera over to my 'assistant' to get a snap of it though!)
@tashachawner Hahahaha! That has totally happened to me, too! I think you are addicted when you feel guilty for posting a filler shot because your life got in the way that day . . .
... the first thing you think about before going to bed at night is what your shot will be the next day -- and then you wake up early because you're too excited to sleep anymore!
...you really hate to be cold and completely hate snow, but you ask to spend the weekend in Yosemite National Park for Valentine's weekend to try to get a certain photo you want to take. It's official. I'm addicted.
you are going away for a long weekend with your lovely husband and all you can think about is that you won't be able to do your project for four whole days... OMG, OMG, OMG what will I do!!!!!
You give up and switch your purse for a camera bag.
You get a rush of endorphins when you work hard on a shoot or find a picturesque moment and get "the shot"
you find yourself laying on the cold ground, up on a ladder with your expensive equipment, trespassing on private property because you just had to get a shot of your client with that vintage truck... yeah that's when you know. not that i've EVER done any of the above :) lol
when you wake up and while you're brushing your teeth, you are looking on your computer/iphone to see what people had to say about you.......maybe that's just me...lol.
When everything is a photo op! From a leaking ceiling to a visit to A & E to have a piece of glass removed to a beautiful sunrise to a dessert you just made.
...... when your 3 year old wakes u up at 5:30am and u actually dont mind and are quite grateful beacuse it means u will have time to fit in a that quick sunrise over the pond shot u never seem to acheive ........ oh no wait that was just my morning this morning hehe ! im sure there will be another tomorrow :)
@niara I really know that feeling! I had an assignment to hand in on Wednesday, on Tuesday night I kept thinking "Just one more picture..."
When the first thing you pack in your bag is your camera.
When you walk out the door, think you have forgotten something. You check your bag, camera, there, keys, got, purse, yup, bus pass, in pocket. You get half way down the street then realise the world is very blurry. Thats what you forgot! Glasses!
When you start looking at everything in a new light and thinking "how can I make that interesting?"
These responses are INCREDIBLE and OH SO FAMILIAR!!!!!! Isn't it fun to know that we're not in this thing alone? That others feel the same way you do about your obsession! Keep 'em coming! And keep on shooting!
@michellegaynor Me, too! My Valentine present is a weekend in Yosemite to take photos. I won't have access to the internet in our cabin! @sdpace@girlincamo A lady at the dog park always asks me what the theme for the day is.
when u are sleepy because you have not got enough sleep and there you go outside or looking somewhere in you house just to take a pic and not miss 365.. hahahha

My husband had to yell at me because I kept edging closer to a wild elk in Yellowstone trying to get my shot.
your first thought when looking at a beautiful sunset is "hmmm maybe f8 ..."
you end up watching the whole of a firework display through a viewfinder
when someone runs in to the house to tell you that there is a house on fire in the neighbourhood and your instinct is to grab your camera
... when people ask me why I don't have my camera with me
( @girlincamo hee hee... that gave me a good giggle!)

I can relate to 99% of these answers!
when you will go out in just about any element to capture great photos
or when you ask a set of people who are vacationing and ask you to take a photo of them, and you ask them can I use this for my 365 project...
or you ask a teacher who is passionate about teaching if can you shoot him ( I asked but he shot me down)
all thing stated above I certify are true beyond reasonable doubt
