Flower photography

My camera club decided about a month ago to have weekly online meetings because we were feeling isolated. But I have always led all meetings. Easy when we have good weather because we like to get out in our town and do photography. So I asked other people to lead the meetings. But it is now my turn again. We have chosen the subject of "flower photography." I have done some research but there are so many wonderful people who shot flowers regularly I wanted to come to you and ask what things you do to get a special flower. Also if you have an example of your suggestion that I can use for demonstrating it would be nice but not necessary. We have digital cameras, point-and-shoot, plus cellphones. We want to be able to shot in the house and in the garden or back yard. Thank you for your help.

My tip is to look for imperfections in flowers as I find that more interesting than perfect blooms

I like to shot flowers when they are partialy in the sun. They shine like lamps...

I have a sheet of black cardboard and a spray bottle. Find a spot near the window with some sun coming in to shine of water drops, or in a darker spot to get a really nice deep background for contrast :)

I often do "ultraviolet induced visible fluorescence" with flowers. It's fairly easy to do, you just need to pick up a powerful UV flashlight, then in a dark room, you light the flowers with the UV light. Some flowers fluoresce much better than others.

Here's a flower in normal light.

And that same flower with a UV flashlight.
