I got my computer back today only to find out that $100 I spent to have all my photos backed up by the geek squad did nothing I lost over a years worth of photos and am completely heartbroken over it so I'm not going to have the heart to take more photos right now. I'm still ahead by a few days on my albums so thats a good thing. I just need a break for a day or two to mend my heart. So please forgive me if I do not reply for a few days. thank you!
@asrai@gwilkowski I got the computer back and the external hard drive that was supposed to have the files on it but the folder was empty and when I called and even took the computer back into them they said oh here they are and brought up a old backup from a year ago. So I missing a years worth of family photos of my children and even from my brothers wedding things I can never get back. Just feeling as though my world just burned down. @positronicmommy@sdpace thank you all for caring means a lot to me think I'm going to have to start backing things up more often like once a month so this never happens again.
Ouch! That would sting a bit in the motivational department. But the good news is your camera still works! The worst thing you can do is to stop taking pictures (who's gonna win in that case?). So get back here after a break and start snapping. Good luck.
That is so terrible I know how you feel! We've lost pictures of some of our vacations before. We still don't know where they might be around here and if they were permanently deleted or not. Sometimes photos can be retrieved on your hard drive but I don't know if that would work in your case.
I would definitely suggest getting a large external hard drive to store all your photos. You won't run out of space on a big one. Some even go up to 1 terabyte! (they cost around $50 - $100).
Luckily I haven't lost major amounts of photos, but have lost files - and that is bad enough! A whole year is worth feeling some heartbreak and taking some mourning time. I would add the suggestion to get TWO external hard drives, as I have had those go bad too! Hope you can gather photos from other sources to supplement your lost year. As a rule of thumb, I don't take my photos off my camera's card until they have been backed up twice and I load them onto my computer's hard drive immediately at the end of the day.
Oh, Beth! I am so sorry to hear that. I feel your pain. I feared something like this might happen to me that I started a thread/discussion a few weeks back about maintenance. They adviced me to have an external hard drive and another hard drive to back up that hard drive. I have an external HD now and still need to get another one. Hope you feel better soon. ..... I am missing you already. :(
I used a file recover program to recover files a chip ate...It cost $40 but it did recover my files.....and a whole, lot of files I didn't want but..the ones I did want...I wanted badly.
While I was searching for that program I saw several that recovered lost files that had even been deleted, from hard drives. I wonder if this could help you.
Also. recently I got a 1.5TB external HD at Walmart for $70.
I am soo sorry to hear that. It has always been a fear of mine since going digital and documenting growing children. :-( As a mom, I feel your heartache. Maybe ask friends and family to go through their pics of the last year and send you ones they may have of your children. :-) I know it's not the same tho, but somthing.
@jeancarl just going to take a few days down not quiting would never do that because I love 365. @refriedradio@svestdonley@carrieoakey@gwilkowski@moose I do have a external hard drive and my husband has one as well I backed up some stuff a year ago when I 1st got the computer but I never expected the hard drive to fail after a year and when the hard drive started to go my USB ports stopped working but then the geek squad got it to work so thought they would be able to back it up before they sent it in to be replaced. I don't think they even checked to make sure it worked before sending my computer in to have the hard drive replaced then last night they tried telling me the back up I did a year ago with only music and no photos was the back up they did. I'm going to go today and get my money back for the backup they didn't do. @gingersanders I wish I could recover it but its a new hard drive :( @gardengal@sabrinaromahn@lacedxxoo@indiannie_jones thank you all for your kind words starting to feel a little better after a night of sleep but still missing what I lost. But the good news is I had some photos on facebook from the last year so thats a good thing. @miata2u sorry to here that :( I know how you feel.

I can't even imagine what that would feel like. I'm so sorry.
