Prices charged for wedding photos!

Ok, my niece in the US was just given a price of $10,000 for a couple to do her wedding photos!!! Maybe it's me, but I think this is totally outrageous. If it isn't, I'm coming out of retirement to start a new career!

I'm getting married in October and did some price shopping and the ranges out there were crazy. Around here (New England, USA), I found anywhere from about $2500 to $8000 depending on what you are looking for. It seems like the average for about 7-8 hours for 2 photographers with all digital prints and rights went for about $2500 - $4000.

Hope that helps.

Yeah, that's more than I've ever known someone to charge unless it was a four-day event. Or it was a royal wedding. Gah...I can't believe I just brought up the royal wedding again.

I'm doing a couple of weddings over the next year for friends. And, yes, I am still charging them. On average, I'm charging $3,000 to cover the rehearsal, everything on the wedding day from getting dressed, setting up, arriving, and the event, and the reception after. I'll do about 80 hours of work by the time I'm finished with the job.

@mcdougall Katie nailed is perfectly with her estimates. That's pretty much anywhere across the US now. Of course, the biggest problem is that more and more weddings are going without a photographer or relying on a friend of the family to do it for free. As fewer people hire wedding photographers, those photographers will have to start charging more to keep making the same amount of money they have been.

It's a vicious cycle.

$10,000!!! That's crazy. I think most in my area of the US are around $3000 (at most).

Getting married in October and having researched wedding photographers for ages... prices range from £500 to I would say £4000.. Probably dearer out there but on average, £1200-£2000 seems to be the standard price.

Prices here are similar to those @andycoleborn mentioned - the photographer at a wedding I went to last year charged EUR4,000 and stayed for the majority of the reception too, which was a surprise, but some of the photos came out a little... odd.

@mcdougall I doubt my niece is going to pay that amount! She'd rather spend some of that on their reception and honeymoon.

@azza_l Outrageous! I'd sue that guy!
