A photo you love but your friends dont get the meaning to it!

i don't know about you but i always have the problem of being proud of photo thats a little out of the ordinary and when i ask what my friends think, they give me a look like they are lost in space. Go ahead and post a photo that speaks to YOU and even if it doesn't speak to anyone else, if you love it, thats all that really matters!

this is my example. I called it standing tall because its a dieng plant that looks like its been through so much yet it is still standing. When showing this to a friend, she said, "its a weed..." Oh how that irked me.. :)

I had a photograph similar to this in the Abstract section of the camera club monthly challenge and the judge did not consider it abstract. He said for one, it had no colour. I was so disappointed as a close up of a peacock ( which was obviously a peacock) got through!

I love this one I took in July. To me it sums up an English summer day yet to my husband and friends it's "ok" and they don't see it like I do.
Maybe I'm on my own with it though as it's had few views and even fewer comments on here.

this is one of my fav photos I've ever taken but it never got much reaction on here or Facebook! ah well :)

@cookie123 i think it is very abstract! Is there a rule book that says it has to be wicked colorful!?
@emmar84 its very pretty! very soft looking i love this!
@izzymathie this is a great picture of peopl in motion! i love this!!

Not that my opinion matters! its all up to you!

@kkfielding I totally get what you mean, and I do like how you captured the "weed" it really does look like it's still hanging on after it's been through a rough life. I wonder if your friend would like it any better if you used a vertical composition removing some of the other distracting elements?

Eh, I've been known to photograph plenty of "weeds" in my time, dandelions were some of my favorite if they weren't in my yard *lol*

literally garbage to other people!

@neda thank you for understanding!
@eholle haha this is awesome! i love it!

I think weeds are awesome photography subjects, although I would never have seen their potential before doing this project. I love the blue background and the sun in your photo too, although I do agree that perhaps shooting it vertical (or cropping it) may make the plant stand out more. I had two shots from yesterday that I absolutely loved, and I got some nice comments but I guess people didn't fall for them like I had!!

@cpbuckley @kiwichick both amazing!!!

My husband does not get either of these. He does not like them at all. He thinks photos should be something pretty that you want to frame....

My creepy homage to The Shining. Most of my friends and family either didn't say anything or were horrified by what I've done to my daughter for this shot - but it makes me laugh/get freaked out whenever I see it. I think I got the feel of the creepy girls from the Shining not too badly here:

@pwallis AWESOME!!!!

My husband hates it when I shoot strangers, homeless etc. He says it seems dishonest or like I think I'm a PI. I love photos that tell a story though

@twinsplusone @cfitzgerald I love character shots, too. Interesting how you both did them in black and white.

Here's one. Nobody seemed to understand why I would take a picture of a broken chair on the side of the road.

I couldn't find a photo to post to this thread - I am going to give all of my friends a hug the next time I see them. I don't think I realized how supportive they are until now. :)

@cfitzgerald @twinsplusone I love street photography; especially pictures of homeless people. I think it makes some people uncomfortable to have to look at such pictures and recognize them as both sad and beautiful. Keep on doing your thing, you're both awesome!

I loved this shot I took a couple of weeks ago, and it got a really underwhelming response.

Everyone here takes amazing shots! there isn't one here i dont like! i dont see why others wouldnt agree!
November 15th, 2011
@izzymathie it captures a happy moment and it has an oldish look to it, I can see why you like it, I like it too.
November 15th, 2011
@kiwichick I LOVE the top one!

I like the way you can pick out features on this face!
Eyes, mouth, cheeks, nose, beard, ears (or sideburns), hair

I usually shoot happy, cheery photos with lots of colour or cute animals in it. So this shot was very special for me and I liked how raw it looked but my husband thought it was boring and it got some reaction on here but not a huge one.

@izzymathie : This is so awesome! Love how involved she is in her dancing! Gone to fav it now.
@pwallis : I loved that one the first time I saw it in all its creepiness ;). Already fav'd it backthen.
@shadesofgrey : This is really cool! What a cool idea to cut off the head and then include it in the shadow. Gone to fav it now.
