Camera Settings 5 The winner

June 8th, 2012
Cogratularion Cameron for hugging a post. This is a perfect example of shooting in low light. @geocacheking Cameron has a heap of other equally delicious shots on his page. Go and take a look.

I shall now give this page back to Kathy @myhrhelper whose brainchild it is.

Thank you Sue@swilde for such a fun challenge and learning experience!!

@geocacheking Congratulations Cameron!! This is really a beautiful shot and I LOVE the clarity of it even though it's in the evening!

It is up to you to find an experienced photographer to host the next challenge!. We try to start them on Saturday and have them last about 4 1/2 days (ending mid Wednesday, vote on Thursday, announce winner Friday and start new challenge again Saturday).

I suggest whoever you choose to host the next challenge uses this as a format. There is a link to experienced photographers (below) you can ask to host the next challenge if you don't know of anyone to ask.

Congratulations XX
Winning Photo -
XX has selected me to host the next challenge.

Do some of the camera settings intimidate you? Do you want to learn how to develop your photography skills and learn how to use your camera effectively without always going back to the “auto” function? These challenges are for you!

This week’s challenge is:
Explanation:
Additional Tips (optional):
Helpful Links:

Experienced photographers who are knowledgeable in this particular setting are encouraged to offer “kind and constructive” suggestions on the posted entries. Those entering this challenge want to learn and improve.

This challenge starts today (lasts 4 ½ days), and ends Wednesday, XX 12:00pm Central Standard Time (17:00 Zulu time http://www.zulutime.net) All photos must be taken during these dates to be considered. TAG YOUR PHOTO CSC-X AND post your picture in this thread to receive feedback from other experienced photographers specific to this challenge.

Voting will take place Thursday, XX (and remain open 24 hours) and the winner will be announced XX. The winner of the challenge will select an experienced photographer to host a new challenge. It is the winner’s option on who they want to host the next challenge; it may be someone they follow whose work they admire, or someone who is active offering suggestions on previous CSC challenges. The winner may also select an experienced photographer for the list of photographers who have agreed to host future challenges as another option. Here is the link to that list: http://365project.org/myhrhelper/365/2011-12-12

Expect to receive constructive suggests on how to improve your skills.

How to post your photo on this link:

@swilde @myhrhelper Wow Sue and Kathy, thank you so much. And thank you for those of you who voted for my shot as well. I never expected when I took it or posted that it would make it to voting let alone win. :). So very exciting.

I'm lookin for the next host now, hopefully we'll have a new challenge tomorrow. Thank you all again.

@geocacheking How's your search for someone to host the next challenge going? If you can't get one started by today we should at least try for tomorrow. I think finding someone to host takes longer than originally anticipated. I discovered this myself when I had to look.

I think the main thing is not to delay it too long (a day or two isn't the worst thing) and run the challenge for 4 days, 1 day vote, then post winner next day. Also if you need there are people listed on the link above, but there are so many great photographers on this site.

I already asked someone but they are not available at this time. Currently looking for another to ask. Using the link above, thanks it is a huge help. :).

Do I need to come up with the challenge or just the photographer? @myhrhelper
June 10th, 2012
@myhrhelper Just asked another. Hoping to hear back soon, also is there a list of those that have hosted already to add somewhere. Not that they can't host again but just trying to ask some that haven't yet to get a variety.

Go to this page and there will be some who may be willing.
June 10th, 2012
@geocacheking You do not come up with the challenge only the photographer.
June 10th, 2012
@gurry @djepie @cfitzgerald @38mm @agima @jsw0109 @sdpace @beetle365 @pocketmouse @amyhughes

Sorry all for the mass invite but I tried it one at a time with some photographers not on the list and some from the list and the response was either a no thank you, not now but thanks, or no response as of yet. I'm desperate so I'm asking the rest (some of you again) :) If any of you could host the next camera setting challenge I (and @myhrhelper and those of us who have enjoyed these challenges and learning some more about photography and our cameras) would be grateful.

First come first served for this, if you are interested. Read above from Kathy for the format if you haven't hosted yet.

Again sorry for inviting you in a mass posting. Thanks to any an all who respond even with a no, or not now. :)

June 10th, 2012
@geocacheking I'd be happy to! :) What settings have already been done?
June 10th, 2012
@pocketmouse Thank you so much Teresa. In reverse order I think I have them right:

5. Low light by doing all three: -You can have your shutter open for longer
-You can have the iris opened wider
-You can raise your ISO

4. Aperature: shooting wide open (as wide as your camera lens allowed)

3. FEC - Flash Exposure Compensation

2. Shutter speed: 1/200

1. Aperature: f5.6 only
June 10th, 2012
@geocacheking I agreed to host one a while back. I'll take a shot after Teresa.
June 10th, 2012
@gurry Thanks Gary. You were at the top of the list Kathy started but I wasn't sure if you had already hosted or not otherwise I would have started at the top. :) Next time I won't rely on my poor memory and go back and look at the challenge pages.
June 10th, 2012
@gurry Gary, Let's plan this if you are ok with this. Whoever wins the next one will either select someone they know but if they can't get someone to start it after 24 hours of the winner being announced you will host it. Please keep your eyes open. I think for future I should always get a backup person who has already agreed to host it if the winner can't find one. So if you can be the backup for challenge #7 (you never know the winner might even select you right away too).

Does that make sense?
June 10th, 2012
@pocketmouse You can use the above format for the post, but have the challenge last 4 full days, 5th day vote 24 hours, winner announced day 6.
So excited that you will host the next challenge - I can't wait to learn something new!
June 10th, 2012
@myhrhelper Makes sense. Admittedly, I am not the most punctual person, but I'm still in :)
June 10th, 2012
I'm still in for one, I just need to check in more often since I'm not posting to my project anymore :)
June 10th, 2012
@myhrhelper any news on the new challenge or have i missed the post
June 11th, 2012
@myhrhelper This might be a good idea, to have a photographer pre-selected the week before for the next one if the winner does not find another in 24 hours. You may be on to something very helpful.
June 11th, 2012
@mortisa The new photographer has been identified @pocketmouse Teresa we are waiting for her to post. Please post at your earliest convenience - would love to see one very soon! :) @sdpace I'm going to try to select challenges #'s and whoever has agreed to that number can be sure to watch for it. @chapjohn
June 11th, 2012
@myhrhelper @geocacheking Cheers :) I will host the next one shortly!

@gurry If you'd like to host the next one, I will bug you about it so you won't forget .xD
June 11th, 2012
ha! looks like I'm a little late to the game! I'm still willing to host as well :)
June 11th, 2012
@amyhughes :You are not late. I'm going to put a schedule together for challenge host backup's. This will be the backup person if a new host cannot be found from the winner of the challenge. It will be the backup person's responsibly to start the new challenge within a specific time frame.
June 11th, 2012
@myhrhelper perfect!
June 16th, 2012
@gurry The voting for Challenge 6 has started. I will let the winner know that you have agreed to host challenge #7 if the winner doesn't find someone to host the next challenge. Is that still agreeable to you?
If yes, please keep an eye on the results of the challenge and the progress. The winner will have 24 hours to find someone to agree or you will host it.

Also, above would be the format to use should you end up needing it.
Please let me know if you agree.
Thanks
