The fourth challenge is here, and it will be held on Friday, 22 June 2012; which is JUST AROUND THE CORNER!!!
Several of us have been at this since the First event and it's been great! A lot of you have mentioned wanting to get back into film; well this is a great way to do it!
I put the link to the event in the first comment since I am a tard and couldn't figure out how to put it here.
Event #4 is even more extra special since it will be in B&W (you can either shoot Black and White, or convert your color shots to B&W before posting).
Save this discussion to your favorites and post a link to your results in this thread. You can also post your favorite shots here from the 22nd!
Label any shots from that day "RIAD4"
Here is a thread from the last RIAD/DIAR event, #3!
You know, Aaron, I can't decide if I'm going to do it this time! I work on Fridays and no one wants to see MORE pictures from my boring office building. ;)
I am toying with taking part of the day off though. I have a perfect roll of black and white film I've been saving - some of the new 110 film from Lomography.com! Decisions, decisions. :)
@beautifulthing Shelly, if you decided to do your roll on Thursday, or even God forbid Saturday, I won't tell a soul! :) Besides, I'd really like to see how that Lomo B&W turns out!
@grizzlysghost Me too!! There aren't all that many images from it out there yet - and this roll has been burning a hole in my pocket! The only drag is that I'll probably have to send it off for developing - I don't think anyone in town works with 110 anymore. At least, my lab doesn't!
Mines def going to be taken the following day, Friday is not a good choice! I have another old B&W roll in the camera just waiting to be used. Thanks for the reminder : )
Yay! So thrilled about this. It encourages me to shoot the remaining 8 frames on the roll in the camera now and FINALLY try my hand at developing them. I am in for the RIAD, but will be posting mine here as I don't "flikr."
Anyone here use negative scanners? I may shoot and develop friday, but need to get them uploaded.
@beautifulthing Thx! I checked it out, and it looks like a good option. Have you enlarged and printed from a negative yet? How's quality? My negatives scanned from Walgreens are really grainy, and not necessarily from the film grain. The scan quality just seems poor.
Damn, I'm going to be shooting B&W film at an awesome event on Sunday. It would be pretty obvious it's from a different day, but I amy still post. I just picked up a Holga and ordered some Lomography b&w film for it, but I don't think the film will arrive for this weekend.
@cmc1200 I've had the same experience with their scans! Pretty low resolution, around 500kb. I'm getting in the habit of using the scans from the lab as my 'thumbnails' to preview the roll and then rescanning on my own machine the ones that I think are good enough. I've yet to enlarge/print - I do very little printing, really!
@chewyteeth@grizzlysghost I have my fancy red Kodak Ektralite loaded up with the Lomo 110! I think I may have messed it up, though - which is going to be pricy! But I don't remember how to use 110 and I had a devil of a time getting it to work - and I think the first camera I tried wasn't functioning. Oh well, we'll see what happens!
@beautifulthing only 110 I ever had was push the film casette in the back and pull the lever twice to advance to the first frame, and it was a kodak. Pull the lever twice between each frame, 24 frames. thats all I know. I sold it because it was £10 for the developing and I reckoned smaller negs wasn't gonna do anything magical?? prove me wrong.
@chewyteeth Supposedly this 110 is groovy, but of course Lomography is going to say that about its OWN stuff. :) I wanted to try the one roll, but to use it a lot, is going to be cost-prohibitive. It's 'spensive to buy from them, and I'm going to have to send it off for developing, which will also be 'spensive. And for the quality I suspect I'm going to get, I'll be better off with instant or Holga.
@38mm Yes, a bit cheaper too, and they develop film on Tuesdays and Thursdays, the other on did a Friday. Well done you though, hot off the press! I'll def' do colour next time.
@38mm I don't think I am smarter than the camera. I really don't know. I have used film before... I have read the manual a million times... I just might sell the blasted thing
@38mm It is a Petri FT, It snaps whenever the film is done and I have to rewind it. It has a manual rewind. I have tried to finish the roll early and it still does it. Currently, I am just using Kodak film ISO 200 - 24 shots from Target. Still haven't gotten anything developed so I don't even know if it works....
@cfitzgerald Ok I will state the obvious, but you are depressing the film rewind button on the bottom of the cam before trying to rewind? If so then guess that is not working properly.
Hoping to get the negative scanning logistics worked out soon. For now, here's one image from my roll. It was my first time using anything other than TriX (for black and white) and holy cow am I lovin' the Ilford Delta 400! Amazing tonal range as long as expose properly. I'll post more as soon as I can. http://365project.org/mabelkitty/365/2012-06-25
Ok, FINALLY got my film back, here is my first set (duds and all)! All photos were pretty underexposed because I was using a red filter on all of these shots and failed to adjust my settings appropriately. Also, I cut a frame in half because I wasn't paying attention, so I scanned it in as two frames. http://www.flickr.com/photos/16410567@N02/sets/72157630517536318/

Bonnaroo was my first experience with film since probably high school. First time shooting film with an SLR.

I really need to put at least one of these into one of my 365 albums too. Must remember when I get home...
