Alrighty, so as per Vanya's rad suggestion, new challenge is to photograph something native to where you live / where you're from (or even something familiar, but your own local version of it), with the A-Z challenge in mind. So for instance, day 1 would mean something beginning with / symbolizing A - thus if you're from... Texas, you could have an armadillo? :D (that took me a few minutes to think up, haha)
Dorrena had a few questions in the Challenges thread - I say you play it your way; keep it in alphabetical order and the rest is up to you (whether you do one every other day or whatever) and there's not really any need for a cut-off date, yes?
I'll start mine in a separate album aaaand with any luck, I can find an A today.
We can tag them Home_A, Home_B and so forth.
To see all the entries in one spot (and include yours with them) use the tag Home_A_Z in all the shots you post for this challenge :D
If anyone has anything else to add, let me know. Have fun! :)
I've always enjoyed photos that show the region where our photographers live, so this will be lovely to look forward to. Please, everyone, in your profiles, let us know where you live! I see wonderful photos sometimes, and have no idea where they were taken! Looking forward to some arm-chair traveling!
You don't make it easy do you. An A-Z challenge is hard enough. I'll think i'll skip this one. :o) I'm already having trouble as it is without more pressure.
mmm, just did a tag search for home-a and it turned up 16,000 entries, this is a popular challenge!
maybe the tag should something less common like challengehomea, challengehomeb, etc. or similar, any thoughts?
I'm so pleased that I could have input here and thank's to Annie for getting this one off the ground :) Now to get my thinking cap on for home_a :) I'm really looking forward to seeing everyones photos :)
My husband suggested getting a children's book to get suggestions for what to photograph. I like the idea and asked him to join us and share the book with me. ;-) I had a heck of a time thinking of an *A* thing. ACK!!!! I've only just begun.
Ohhhh! I can't wait to get started! I will have to get started today and will post them to a separate album as well... So, tagging "home_A" and so on... sounds easy enough. The tagging that is, NOT the challenge! Hehe.
@rich57; no worries. Annie has mentioned there is no timeline. Do it on your schedule. I will be incorporating it into what I already do. This just gives me another option along with the daily shoot, and whatever catches my attention each day.
@wormentude That's up to you - I opted for country because Cyprus is already pretty small. But I would imagine someone in the US doing something more specific to their town / city or even state.
What a cool idea! I'd love to join, but I am not home :-( Still getting familiar with our new surroundings. I might attempt it later this year ;-) Looking forward to all the photos! ;-) This will be much better than any guidebook! ;-)
I think the biggest challenge will be the tough letters like Q and X but I will push through it! I think I may end up posting some letters out of order if I find the perfect idea but we will see how it goes! =D
Awesome!! I'm going to do this, starting with yesterday (9/23) = A, and I'm going to try to get them all in San Luis Obispo or Cal Poly, but we'll see.
Fancy having a go at this - glad there's no timeline as I haven't started yet. Q would be alright for us Brits - as long as Her Maj answers the door when I call round ...
I think the looseness of the challenge will make it better. I'm already loving what I've seen of Cyprus, Shoreline, Weymouth and Auckland. It would be great if we could have a notification everytime a picture was tagged home_x but I suppose that's a bit unrealistic!
I'm going to give it a try!! Just to make sure I understand (sorry I'm a teacher and have to make sure I understand all the directions!! lol)....we take pictures of anything to show our area and where we live---or anything having to do with the state using the alphbate, right? I guess I'm asking since I live in a small town and wont have as many photo opps can it be a picture of local businesses if the name is the letter needed? love the new challenge!!
I'm just doing anything related to my local area (Yorkshire, UK) or failing that Britain as a whole, and switching between actual places and things like traditions or whatnot (eg afternoon tea). I'm also fully expecting to have gaps where I can't find the time or opportunity to get something on a certain day.
As Annie says we can make our own rules. Hope to see your pictures soon!
@indiannie_jones I'm also going to tag my submissions with "home_a_z" so that they can all be found in one spot. Feel free to add that tag if you so wise. I will have some that might not fit the "home_#" so I thought that the a-z tag might work (not used by anyone else at this time. Tags can be changed if necessary.
@etiep I think this was Vanya and Annie's idea but the way I see it, and please correct me if I'm wrong, is that we've started but we're not on any particular letter. Its more a case of doing it your own way and basically sharing the challenge and your pictures with other 365ers. The only rule I'm imposing on myself is to post my pictures in alphabetical order but I'm not going to tie myself down to having to do one every day. So I'd say if you're up for it get cracking with your A and post it whenever you're ready. If we follow JAs idea of tagging home_a_z as well as each individual letter then we'll all be able keep with each other. At least I think that's right! Good luck anyway and look forward to seeing your pictures.
Richard is exactly right - we've started but we're not on a specific letter. My next is C and so is his, but Peter, for instance, posted his C last night so his next one (I assume) will be a D
AKK - I'm late! That's what I get for not checking in on discussions. I was just thinking about a new ABC project since I have been very uninspired lately.
i think tthat this is such a GREAT CHALLENGE..... wish I could join it but it will prove to be a bit TRICKY, as am an American (from the Bay Area) - living between Taiwan and the Philippines....
@indiannie_jones Well its done and I had so much fun doing this one and it was a huge learning curve on night time photography. Looking forward to some more and tomorrow is B :)
I also need to catch up viewing everyone else's but from what Ive seen it looks really great :)
great idea and agree with @Louise & Ken re putting in the info where they are, not just the item, suburb, region but also state [and country] ... I for one am not too familiar with places in the US but a keen student.
CRAP-am I doing this wrong? For some reason, I took it to mean, your state....so I started Michigan.....should it have been for the whole USA country?? Or just my state.....
@deesdiscoveries Haha, nooo, you're not doing anything wrong at all! I went with the country idea because I live on a teeny island - but state is just fine. As is town or suburb or province or whatever else applies :)
@indiannie_jones:
This is a wonderful challenge - and I am in and involved! I've decided to take it quite literally, and will have pictures of suburbs or streets in my hometown, following the A-Z. Let the games begin!
@indiannie_jones This was an awesome idea! I have started, and really, can't wait to get them all done!!! Share some history of my awesome state! Great idea!
I am just getting to this project. I love the idea. I made my first photo yesterday. I am going to do my neighborhood. I heard something on the radio about a neighborhood in a big city being 72 blocks square. The town I live in is much smaller than that, so I am going to document life in small town Iowa.
I think I'll start doing this when I move into uni this week, since that'll be my new home for the time being. I'm looking forward to the challenge. :D
@indiannie_jones The credit is yours my dear as you got it off the ground, I just helped with ideas which I am quite good at but too lazy for anything else ;)
Im so enjoying looking at all the home challenges and still have a few more to look at. I got my joined b and c uploaded today hoorrayyyyy! now onto D :)
I'm slowly getting into this 365 thing and decided to try the A-Z challenge. I've started with A is for Archives. Most of the letters shouldn't be hard for the metro DC area...except X. I'm not sure on that one.
I've gotten all the way to C and now i'm stuck lol. I had the perfect opportunity to get a shot of a Cockatoo yesterday but didn't have my camera. I have plans for some letters further on but need to get to them first! :-p
@amz87 I got to E before I actually became stupidly frustrated. Then at K I stopped :/ but I've since uploaded six days worth of older shots to fill the slots and get me up to date, so hopefully tomorrow I can get my Q :)
I'm game to try this...however, I can come up with a photo for just about every letter except A...so I guess once I figure that out, I'll be good to go.
Phew - what a marathon but I'VE DONE IT. ALL 26! I'd done the 1-10 challenge back in April, but had no idea of the stamina required to get through the whole alphabet. Thanks @indiannie_jones for getting me on track. It's been a great way of shaking me out of some same 'old pictures' I was taking.
i wont be in my home until the 1st of Oct
Good luck with that though.
maybe the tag should something less common like challengehomea, challengehomeb, etc. or similar, any thoughts?
I tried home_a and that seems to work fine (nothing shows up yet) so how's that? (I'll keep updating my original post with what we choose)
Have fun, all! And it is agreed then, home_a it is!
Dorrena congrats on uploading the 1st. It is really pretty :)
WHERE'S YOUR FIRST SHOT, PRINCESS?
/excited
*falls off edge of seat*
D:
Ok, I'll do mine, but I won't create another album.
It's an Ace membership feature, but you can always just incorporate the challenge into your regular 365 project at your own pace :)
As Annie says we can make our own rules. Hope to see your pictures soon!
Some of us started a few days back, but you can easily start when you're ready :) there's no timeline... it's easier to keep it fun this way :)
@byrdlip
Great idea! I'll be sure to check out the tag for your shots :)
THANKS!
:D
:D hoorah
I also need to catch up viewing everyone else's but from what Ive seen it looks really great :)
This is a wonderful challenge - and I am in and involved! I've decided to take it quite literally, and will have pictures of suburbs or streets in my hometown, following the A-Z. Let the games begin!
It's a fun challenge :D we already have loads of shots tagged.
Im so enjoying looking at all the home challenges and still have a few more to look at. I got my joined b and c uploaded today hoorrayyyyy! now onto D :)
I'm going to check out your entire challenge sooooon
