There has been some interest in bringing this challenge back, it seems to have got lost in the mix. So here it is:) Have fun!
This is how the challenge goes :
1. Go to Wikipedia ( http://en.wikipedia.org/) and hit "random article" on the left. The first random Wikipedia article you get is the name of your band.
2. Go to The Quotations Page ( http://www.quotationspage.com/) and hit "random quotes" on the left. Scroll down. The last 4-6 words of the very last quote on the page is the title of your album.
3. Now go find a photo that fits your album!
4. Use your favorite editing program to create your cover. You can use any image of yours for the album, old or new, but you must use your own images.
5. Enter your album(s) in the challenge by tagging it with albumcoverchallenge18
The challenge will run from today nov.26-dec.1st at midnight. (Pst) All entries must be made between now and then. There's no limit to the number of entries you can make; just be sure to tag them as instructed above.
On Dec.2nd I'll choose the top entries for your voting - the entry with the most votes wins, and the winner gets to host Album Cover Challenge 19. Do share your entries with the rest of us by posting them on this thread but above all ENJOY !!.
artist: Başar Sabuncu (Turkish movie director/screenwriter/actor)
album: Nay, Worse, for it often misleads
(Whatever you do, do it to the purpose; do it thoroughly, not superficially. Go to the bottom of things. Any thing half done, or half known, is in my mind, neither done nor known at all. Nay, worse, for it often misleads.
Lord Chesterfield)
maybe I should shorten that a little more to Often Misleads ? what do you think?
I thought this would be fun, did my album name first and got "..through the eyes of others". Pretty cool eh?
Did my band name next and got "2004 Thailand national football team results".
Obviously some kind of electro outfit, or punk, we're still working on our sound...
Band Name: Daniel Raap - (no really, got Raap!! wikipedia states he is a porcelain merchant & Orangist revolutionary but no mention of instrument played :o)
Album Title: Tears Shed Over Unanswered Prayers
full quote "There are more tears shed over answered prayers than over unanswered prayers"
hope i get round to actually having a go at this !
"Acting like someone you're not is exactly what it takes to realize you're capable of more than you ever knew.
[info][add][mail]Rob Sheridan, Mad Love, The Young and The Reckless, 2011"
"I know of no more encouraging fact than the unquestioned ability of a man to elevate his life by conscious endeavor."
Henry David Thoreau (1817 - 1862)
Band: Apache Geronimo
Album: Being ignorant of everything
Quote: Have the courage to be ignorant of a great number of things, in order to avoid the calamity of being ignorant of everything.
--Sydney Smith, English essayist
OK, here's mine! The album title worked great with my favorite music genre, Contemporary Christian, so here's
"Beliefs of their Audience" by Arystan Temirtau:
For some stupid reason beyond me, the random quote generator part doesn't work on my web browser, probably cause I don't run Java or because of my ad-blocker. The page loads, just minus the bloody quotes! So I took the final four words from that page as the album title.
Which gave me:
Sepak takraw (Volleyball played with your feet, head and torso)
Please read the disclaimer
I'm envisioning some skinny Hipster looking dudes in an Electro band.
@m9f9l All rectified, thanks for the proofreading! These stairs are on the Adelaide University grounds. I always wonder about the accumulated knowledge that has walked up and down those stairs whenever I climb or descend them.
I'm struggling with getting a random quote. As soon as I click on the Random Quote button it gives me a "please select from the following collections" and no matter what I do, keeps coming back to that page. The problem is across Chrome, Firefox and even Internet Exploder. I have never had this problem before. Can someone else try it just to make sure it isn't just me please?
@steampowered It was OK 2 days ago but I couldn't get it to work yesterday or today :( . The first random article (for band name) today was 'Migrant sex workers' Perhaps it's for the best I can't get a random quote :))
@steampowered I'm unable to get the quotes page to work either. Have tried Firefox, Chrome and IE. I did a google search for quote about life, randomly chose a website ( http://www.goodreads.com/quotes/tag/life ) then randomly chose a page number and took the last quote on that page!
Hence my Artist name is 'The Anchorage' and the album title is 'The whole shape has changed'
@salza@steampowered Many thanks Sally - perhaps the 'Migrant sex workers' have an album title after all or I might just have another go at selecting a band name :)
Will post my first attempt here as well :) The band name is Blueprint for Disaster (something to do with housing in Chicago) with their difficult 2nd album 'Out of Favour'
@steampowered Thanks. Went to have a look and got a quote that will be so easy for me to work with so I think my album name is changing to "Friends who make your World"
this sounds fun. Couldnt get quotes to work either so used @steampowered page (thanks paul). Got Angstrem (which is a russian football stadium!!!!)...album name Explore, Dream, Discover!!...here goes.
Here it is....loving this challenge. Angstrem are from russia, they started off playing football together and realised that they were better at grunge than games!!!
And another one!!! Loving this and learning so much about photoshop. I actually got a real musician through wikipedia!!!! The quote was "no matter where you go, there you are" It reminded me of this photo I took a while ago.
Band Name ; Dupuytren's Contracture
Album Title ; He understands hard things.
Dupuytren's contracture is a medical condition and the full quote by Herman Melville (1819-1891) goes like this…"A man thinks that by mouthing hard words he understands hard things"
What a fun challenge! Going to have another go at this for sure.
Random Quote ..... 'No pessimist ever discovered the secrets of the stars, or sailed to an uncharted land, or opened a new heaven to the human spirit." Helen Keller
The Intersect's debut album, "Worse than the Cure", is sure to set your teeth on edge, make your skin crawl, punish your eardrums, and threaten your sanity! A must-have for all Skeleton-Metal fans! Rock on!
Here's my best effort. My first Wikipedia search actually landed on "Frank's Cock." While it would've been a sort of badass band name, I just wasn't lucky enough to have a photo to hold up to that. So, I went to the next one. This is maybe the better of two that I made. Lots of fun! I could do this all day!
Album Title: Doesn't Mean it's Useless
Are you freakin kidding me? :)
No wisdom without love

BTW, Wikipedia says there was a band called like that :o
I'd said it's some kind of alt-rock-emo-goth thing...
I totally did 70s schlock with Bhangra influences!! @cgoose @kali66
And for my album title I got "To obtain a man's opinion of you, make him mad" by Oliver Wendell Holmes
Lets see if I can come up with something....
@haze65 Now that sounds very New Age!
