ETSOOI 38 - LIGHT

July 8th, 2014
Hi guys, thanks for choosing my blue and yellow 'Old Door' photo as the winner of ETSOOI-37!

ETSOOI is an acronym. It means EDITING THE S*&^% OUT OF IT. It is a processing strategy you can employ when your "photo of the day" was boring or bad. Just juice it up a little.

I have Photoshop but lots don’t! Some programs and apps you can use are:
http://www.picmonkey.com/
http://www.ribbet.com/
http://pixlr.com/
http://www.gimp.org/- NOT user friendly, but does Photoshop type edits

Apps:
Snapseed- also online
Photowizard
Picsart
Waterlogue
Percolator
Befunky- also online
Tiny Planets

So, here we go with ETSOOI-38!

The theme is…."LIGHT". A photograph is nothing without light. So, find, add or manipulate 'light' - indoor, outdoor, natural, artificial… I have no preference. Your main subject can be people, animals, still life, architecture, or any other natural element but the light in your photo can't be missed.

YOU MAY ENTER AS MANY ETSOOI-38 photos as you would like.

There are many examples of previous ETSOOI images on this site-- just search the tag ETSOOI and you'll see hundreds. The main idea for this challenge is to have FUN and use post-processing to create something you cannot do simply in camera.

It is not required, but if you could post your original photo and link it in the "write up" of your ETSOOI-38 entry, along with some of the steps you took to process the photo, that would be great. It helps others know what you did to create your photo.

The challenge will start today, Tuesday/July 8th and run until Monday/July 20th. Your picture must be taken during that time. Voting of the top 5 will occur from July 21st to July 23rd.
The winner will host the next challenge and choose a theme (which can be "no theme" if he or she wants) for a new subject. Again, this week the subject is "LIGHT"

Tag your photos ETSOOI-38 and have fun! Try to go to others who are tagging their photos ETSOOI-38 and comment on their attempts.

You may also post them here in this thread if you like. You do that by opening your photo, clicking on the "3 dots" icon under it, select and copy the EMBED code, and then paste that EMBED code in this discussion thread.

Have fun with your ETSOOI! I am excited to see what you come up with!

@zosimasy Charles, interesting light!

@espyetta Make it low-key, manipulate it, or add lens flare like Charles did above, there are so many options. Hope you'll figure something out. You always do.

I love this category, but I just looked at the entries so far and love the photos, but I am not seeing much editing going on...people it is called Edit the Sh*t Out Of It, so lets see some creativity! :-)

This is totally NOT for the competition (not legal, because it was taken 6/28), but I tried editing this sunset to bring out more of the "light." I still have a LOT to learn about this editor because it's much harder that I thought it should be. But I learned some things.

@houser934 So, you too 'shoot and drive'? I'm guilty of that one all the time. I like how you enhanced the sunset here. That bright reddish orange spot on the road is amazing. What editor are you using? If you shoot raw, you can add some more color around the sun using adjustment brush in your raw editor. If you are in the ETSOOI mood, that is. Thanks for sharing this gorgeous pic.
