Technique Challenge 35 - Panography

December 12th, 2014
Hello there!

Firstly I would like to thank Elaine @elaine55 for hosting the last technique challenge. As always, a very big thank you to all those who participated and voted!

Intimidated by the impressive list of the past 34 technique challenges, it took me while to find a technique that was not used before. As with everything else, I started here (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Category:Photographic_techniques) and ultimately ended up here (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Panography) and here (http://content.photojojo.com/tutorials/panographies/).

Panography, or Joiners, is a photographic technique in which one picture is assembled from several overlapping photographs. A panograph is distinct (from a collage or a panorama) because the overlapping edges between adjacent pictures are not removed; the edge becomes part of the picture.

Please tag your photos TECHNIQUE-35

Amit, this definitely looks interesting and like something fun to try. I'm going to read a little more about it and give it try!
December 12th, 2014
A very cool looking technique. Definitely going to research further.

What a coincidence - last night I was thinking it has been a while since I have done a joiner and then this morning I see this. I am going to try to do this although it might be a bit tricky as when I have done joiners before it has been the 1 photo and I used the rectangular marquee tool to select smaller sections of the photo and copied and pasted them onto a blank page in Photoshop. Thank You for the challenge.
December 12th, 2014
@paulam Great! Please do.
December 12th, 2014
@la_photographic Laura - I'm glad you'll join the challenge.
December 12th, 2014
I think I will finally have some time to join in and this looks like fun
December 12th, 2014
Cool! I never knew what this technique was called and always wanted to try it. Thanks, @lambda for suggesting it!
December 12th, 2014
Interesting. I'll probably give this a shot if I have time to do so. :)
December 12th, 2014
@annied Please do, Annie!
December 12th, 2014
@ksmale Karen, looking forward to your entry.
December 12th, 2014
@hrethric Brandon, yes, hope you find time...
December 12th, 2014
This turned out to be more difficult than I expected... Although I regularly make automated panoramas, I wanted to make one with some transparency and do it manually. At least I learned a few things in the process!
December 12th, 2014
@laetitiapetrussa Laetitia I know what you mean. I tried doing it manually and it took me an hour to assemble 25 photos with 50% opacity and in the end it looked so bad that I had to delete it :)
December 12th, 2014
@lambda haha, exactly. First I had way to many shots from too close,then, I had too many skewed ones, and the third time (the charm?) I decided to use 70% opacity. It took me a bit more than 2h in total. But I learned, and that's the point of this challenge! :-)

posted my first year on the site before I knew there was an app for that! Actually it was meant to be a little disjointed after the artist David Hockney
December 12th, 2014
Sounds a great challenge Amit, I shall tag in the others who did the last challenge.
December 13th, 2014
there is a featured function in ribbet.com and picmonkey for panography effects. does that count or do we have to do it manually?
December 13th, 2014
I love these, thanks for tagging me @elaine55
December 13th, 2014
@summerfield good question Vikki :)
December 13th, 2014
Phew took a while but....
December 13th, 2014
This is my attempt
December 13th, 2014
@laetitiapetrussa Very nice, Laetitia! This turned out so good.
December 13th, 2014
@archielogical Disjointed looks very interesting, Archie. Thanks for entering.
December 13th, 2014
@summerfield Hi Vikki - yes it all counts. All we are looking for is the final product. Thanks for the tip about pic monkey - I will give it a try myself. Great panograph of a portrait - thanks for entering.
December 13th, 2014
@summerfield I was not able to find panograph effect on pic monkey. I have the basic editing version you get through 365. Do I need to upgrade? Thanks.
December 13th, 2014
I love these! I used to do them with printed 4x6s back in the film days... never tried it with digital. Sounds like fun! Count me in!
December 14th, 2014
@lambda - sorry, amit, my mistake. i meant "ipiccy.com" not picmonkey. in effects in ipiccy you choose the function "photo collage". thank you.
December 14th, 2014
I did my first attempt in ipiccy - I don't care for it like the manual ones - will try again.
December 15th, 2014
@summerfield Got it, thanks!
December 15th, 2014
@barbtatum Very nice, Barb. I'm thinking I'll try ipiccy as well.
December 16th, 2014
I took a shot of my living room this evening and used the panography effect in ribbet - I like it!!
December 16th, 2014
@barbtatum Looks really cool! thanks for entering.
December 16th, 2014
Ok, so I did this a while ago,,
