First of all, thank you so much for your votes and wonderful comments on the Vivian Maier competition. It was fun especially as street photography is something I pretty much enjoy. I'd like to thank Robin for such a wonderful theme to work on, especially as it was the last week of her 365 project! So glad you stay on, Robin. Also, all the street photos are fabulous!
As last week was black and white street theme, I'd propose that this week's photos be all colors, really wonderful colors in the style of "Steve McCurry" (hope it's ok to select an artist who is pretty much alive).
Although Steve McCurry produces great variety of works for National Geographic and other international magazines, he is probably most well known for the photo "Afghan Girl".
For this competition, I am looking for photos with the color style he uses, and also they don't have to be only portraits.
No need to travel to to Afghanistan or war zones to participate on this fun competition, please just look for his style, the way he uses colors in his photographs and how they are so natural, as well as how he makes them "pop". So.. Lets emulate Steve McCurry!
Amended deadline for submission:
Please tag your photo "artist-challenge-mccurry" . Contest ends this Sunday, June 19th @ 12 midnight your time.
Enjoy!!
PS - please use only photos uploaded from Sunday 12 June to Sunday 19 June your time!
Great choice! I have of course seen his Afghan girl photo but don't know much else about him so I'll enjoy doing some research. Thanks for not requiring us all to fly to Afghanistan in order to participate. :)
@viranod So much inspiration browsing thrue his pictures! I never used this picture for the project, but I like to show it as start of this weeks great challenge! Have fun all, and I'm looking forward to all the entries.
Nod - Steve McCurry is one of my favorite photographers. I've even got his framed "Afgan Girl" in my living room. This will be a spectacular challenge. Looking forward to some fantastic shots.
@viranod Nod, congratulations on your win! I have been enjoying seeing your work developing here, and seeing another side of Thailand through your lens and your eyes. The artist you chose is wonderful and I look forward to participating although I normally don't feel attracted to challenges and competitions :)
Just a question, do the photos have to be taken this week or can older photos be used?
@mimosa Mimo, sincere apologies. I have updated the previous post to you to "Any photos taken and uploaded from Sunday 12 June to Friday 17 June your time!
if anyone's interested, Magnum Photos are giving away a signed copy of Steve McCurry's portraits when they get to 300k followers on their Twitter account - http://twitter.com/#!/magnumphotos
Obviously steep odds, but someone could get lucky, huh? :)
So many great entries! I just wish these artist challenges would go back to lasting a full week including a weekend since that's when I'm really able to go out and get shots outside of my home. Weeknights are just too busy and short for me to devote to photography so I keep missing out on participating in these challenges. Even though I'd obviously have no chance of winning this one with all the talent here!
This is really a challenge! The landscape, the people, the colours just so different here. But those two brought some colour to the busstop! http://stevemccurry.files.wordpress.com/2011/06/russia-10019.jpg
@sourkraut Thanks! It's a fun challenge and should give us a chance to learn something new from the artist's style (including myself as my pics this week has also been influenced by the theme as well)!!
Hope I am allowed to put up more than one.
This is the first time I have entered a challenge.
Great idea!
My little boy. Looks better magnified.
I hope my kids will cooperate and I can try again this week!
