Alright this is a competition for all you bad boys and girls. Each time we will break one of the many "rules" of photography. Best picture wins with bonus style points for breaking the rule in spectacular fashion.
Here are three websites with all their rules.

This time we are breaking the vaunted Rule of Focus. This general rule talks about having at least one point of focus in your frame, making sure the subject of your image is the one in focus, and many other unspoken "should" and "shouldn't"s. But I say- forget focus. Let's break that sucker into pieces.
The main reason focus separates shooters of varying skill levels is because it’s difficult to get fine control of focus with your camera’s automatic settings engaged. In auto shooting modes, your camera is going to do everything in its internal computer’s power to make sure as much of the photo as possible is in focus, whether you like it or not.
To get shots where you’re deliberately throwing some elements of a picture out of focus, you’ll need to turn off the automatic settings, including autofocus. You’ll have to experiment with your camera’s Aperture Priority mode, usually abbreviated A or Av on the selector dial. Av mode allows you to select an aperture best suited to control depth of field and let the camera select the shutter mode to match.
Here's a few examples of mine where my "perfect focus" was deliberately thrown out the window, much to the dismay of some fellow 365ers as you can read in the comments. (and just an fyi, you can get some sweeeet bokeh when playing with your focus!)
Deadline is two weeks from tomorrow, December 5th. I will choose five finalists and put them up for a vote. To be considered as a finalist the shot has to have been made between November 21st and December 5th. Remember to tag your entry as "breaking-the-rules-focus"
In the mean time feel free to show off your previous pictures that breaks this rule, right here in this discussion thread.
Come on everybody, let's walk on the dark side together and take some funky, odd focused photos. You know you want to!
@amyhughes Ooh. Me likey. I will definitely keep an eye out for opportunities to take a pic or so for this one!
In the meantime, I have two to share. The bottom one was featured on holgablog.com, which I thought was awfully nice. The topic it was picked for was 'blur'. :)
Great idea. I always struggle with this . . . following rules, deliberately breaking rules, and focus, for sure. It will be fun to unfocus.
Here is a shot that I made out of focus because I wanted a dreamy quality. It actually wasn't out of focus enough for what I intended, so I boosted the blur with Photoshop.
Thanks for this topic. I was thinking of doing something risque, but was not sure how I was going to pull off the personal exposure of myself with my somewhat modest nature. Now I have a clear vision of this.
BTW I already want to vote for the marathon runners shown above. I faved it last night.
i threw my daughter out of focus deliberately for this collage. i wanted to capture the beauty in her movements, the things we don't always 'focus' on as being beautiful.
In this photo, I purposely put everything out of focus except the young girl playing disc golf. I wanted the attention to be drawn to her and not the background or the disc basket. I got some of the focus I wanted with my camera settings then added blur in Photoshop.
You have all inspired me to have a go at this! Esp to get some of those bokeh shots ! Beautiful! Here is one that was accidently out of focus but I loved the sense of movement
@craige_ben on the right side of the page, scroll down a bit there is a share button. You copy the entire code in there and paste it here in a post and voila!
@beautifulthing@aspada ohh!!! I'm neglecting my duties...I'm so sorry. I've been so insanely busy with editing, I was so behind I've had to pull 11 hour days since Saturday. I'll get the top 5 up to vote on right now! I'm so sorry!

And here are a few oldies from my project:
Zooming during the exposure
Deliberate mis-focus
Moving the camera during exposure

Here are some rule-breakers I have in my album:
I'm going to give this comp a try for sure!
Drops on a web, all out of focus in different degrees.
light trails from a long ride home :)
