Hey guys! This is my first day on this site and its so awesome! Ansyways, I have a Canon Powershot and it takes beautiful pictures.. I was wondering what editing programs everyone uses? I really would love to become a serious photographer but I cant seem to find a editing program that I like.. I prefer the program to be a one time pay system. And either a website that can be used on the iPad or an app. Thank you somuch everyone!

Not an iPad program, but GIMP is an awesome program. Very much like Photoshop only it's FREE! Bit of a learning curve involved, but you can do so much with it!
I use PaintTool SAI to edit my pictures. It's not actually for editing, it's mainly for drawing. But I think it works great anyway. You can search google for a download ^^
@jannkc Thank you for your reply, but it does not work on my iPad. I have a mac that is my mom's that I could use. But not for all my photos. Thank you so much for replying though!
I would really recommend Snapseed - it will work on your iPad - I have an iPhone where I first discovered it, but then bought the full programme for my macbook/desktop....it's a fab editiing programme
@jenniferrichelle There are tons of GIMP tutorials all over the web. You can google search them. Also, the vast majority of Photoshop tutorials can be applied to GIMP as well.
My fave is photoscape!! but I use a number of free programs.. to get what I want, I use a whatever I can find free on the web ...the real question is... what do you want!! ..have a dabble, play a bit and supprise yourself..with free software the quality of free post can be supprising..
I personally use Photoshop. I know its not cheap, but it is a one time buy, and you can do just about everything with it. Definitely worth it in my opinion. But, if you are looking for something free I also encourage snapspeed, I used it a lot before I bought Photoshop.
snapseed has almost everything im looking for. but, im just wondering how a lot of professional photographers have their name on each one of their pictures.. does anyone know any app or website i could do that one?(: thanks everyone for the replys! i love 365 so far! so welcoming and informative!
@neondino I have used photoshop in a graphics class i took last year and really loved it. but i looked online to order it and it was 19.99 a month and an instant download thing, which i wasnt completly comfortable with. I know that I used to have a old photoshop on disk. Do you know where you could get an actual disk? Or do they not have that anymore? Thanks so much!
@jenniferrichelle I am not sure about the disk, I will have to do some research. But, I do know how to add you are name to your photos. Im not sure if there is an app to do it, but in any photo editor you can simply add click the text button (sometimes its just a "T"), choose your font, size, color etc.. And just type your name, or company. Ive done it in photoshop, and even paint. Most online editors even have a text option.
Darktable (Linux and Mac only) and Gimp for me, both free. The latter has a reputation for being user-hostile - don't believe everything you hear though.
@nbs@johnnyfrs Snapseed says it's $19.99 - is there a free version somewhere that I'm missing? What is better Lightroom or Snapseed for MAC? Thanks everyone, great discussion!
I find Snapseed for the iPad to be quite handy, although I do all of my serious editing in Aperture on my Mac. Another good iPad app is iPhoto, though I don't have a lot of experience with it.
I use a combination of Instagram and InstaEffects on my iPhone (I assume they are available for iPad too). The effects I tend to use are really bright and horrendously tacky though so check them out if, like me, you're into the "Las Vegas of Photograph Editing Apps" ;)
@jamesthorn I just saw someone do the coolest "painting" type effect with Iphoto, and wanted to go buy that app. But it is $4.99 and the reviews were all over the place. Some very high, some very low. Very few in between. The biggest complaint seems to be about not being able to delete photos or albums completely. And something about management issues. Oh, and some "it runs too slowly" issues.
You say you don't have alot of experience with it, but have you found these issues to be a problem? Thanks!
Here is the photo that I think is so cool and he used it: @vankrey
I have been using Photoshop since Version 2, It is now up to Photoshop Cloud and IO just subscribed to it. There is soooooo much you can do, depending on how creative you are. It is something you have to use every day to have it become second nature to you. I just love it ...and to old to learn something new! LOL
Hope this helps!
Hope this is somewhat helpful. :)
Shotwell for organizing. Linux only.
Darktable for RAW conversion. Linux and Mac only.
Gimp for more editing stuff. All systems only. ;-)
But seems you have found your application.
