Browsing this site

January 7th, 2014
Can anyone give me some tips on the best way to browse pictures on this site? I must be doing something wrong. I want to look at recent shots from lots of people but if I go to browse by recent and then click on a photo it takes me to that person's page and if I click on Next or Prev it takes me through that person's photostream. Is there a way to go from one photo to another by different people or do I always have to go back to the browse by recent page and select another photo?

I guess I'm used to in Flickr being able to go to a group pool and then easily browse through the photos in that pool.

Any suggestions on making it easy to view and comment on peoples photos when I don't follow them? Obviously making friends would help.

Thanks,

I use a workaround .... I right click (on a PC) a pic and then open it in a new window. In that way, I can right click and open ten or twelve pics in different windows and then go to them individually later. I use this for all the group listings. At times, I leave them open for a day or two when I don't have time to get to commenting or studying them all at the time I find them. I should add that I don't then go to the pic I just opened ... I right click on all the ones I am interested in before I go to any of them.

Great idea Yvonne, I think it's been brought up a couple of times so there is definitely some interest there. I'm also envious of that option on Flickr and think it's pretty convenient! Hopefully it's something Ross ( @scrivna ) has on his radar! :)

not just on your home page where you can see smaller versions?

Amy
I'm a tab view too, but a scrolling option would be handy.

Or a pop up comments box for when I'm scrolling down my feed and viewing on my mobile or Nexus!

Instead of using the 'previous' button on the person's page, use the previous arrow for the url you are using (e.g., Chrome, Safari) and that easily takes you right back to the previous page you'd had open. If you use a mac, you can open in a new window if you hold down the command key and then click the photo. Either works easily.

So, the bottom line is you can't easily go from one person's photo to another. You have to keep going back to the page with the small thumbnails and choose from there. I bet I will miss some gems by not realizing from the thumbnail that it's something I want to look at. I was hoping to be able to move from large pic to large pic but not all from one person. Thanks for the input.

I do the same as Dave @dlaxton . It makes life much easier.

@yvonneknitsknots - If you hover your mouse over the pic, it enlarges just that pic ... does that help?

@dlaxton I use chrome and firefox and have an extension downloaded for both that enlarges the photos on other sites but it doesn't do that on this site for some reason. Do you have an extension that I should know about because the thumbnails aren't zooming for me on this site.

@yvonneknitsknots - I use chrome ... hmmm ... no extension that I know of.

@yvonneknitsknots - well, I just noticed that on the "trending" page it does not enlarge ... only on the "Populor" page.

Ok so I see no easy way to browse photos but what about browsing by a tag? I joined the Get Pushed Challenge and thought I'd look at what others have done for the challenge. How do I browse for the tag Get-Pushed-77? I haven't uploaded my photo yet to add the tag and hopefully click on that. I tried typing the Get-Pushed-77 in the search box but it just brings up discussions.

How do you connect with people on this site? I thought joining a challenge was good but can't figure out how to be part of the group.

Anyone have suggestions on how to make this a social site. I've tried commenting on others photos but haven't made any connections.

@yvonneknitsknots Commenting on people's pics, and following them, is a great way to start building followers.

Joining in discussions and threads like the ROYGBIV and Fav Fav threads can be a way to showcase your own pics, or someone elses, which is also a good way to get noticed.
The people who comment and join in the threads are usually the socially active ones, so click through to the albums of some of the people in this thread and comment.

Mostly it's a case of being patient and proactive - and posting pics that people can comment on :) Now I'm off to check out your pics :)

Oh, for the tags, once you've used the tag on one of your pics, you can click on it and it will take you to the album. You can also find them by typing the theme name (e.g. theme-through) into the search box, and then selecting 'photos' from the left-hand menu - for some reason it always defaults to discussions...
