Hey everyone... so this may seem like a dumb question, but I'd like to know...
I was just looking outside and I saw a birdbath I'd like to take a picture of, but it's raining. (that's why I want to take a picture of it!) So the question is, how am I supposed to take a picture without getting my camera wet?
there are expensive rain covers that you can get, but someone suggested to me to use a shower cap. you just stretch it over the top of your camera and lens, leaving the viewfinder exposed. when you're ready to shoot, just uncover the front of the lens for a few seconds. i've never tried it, but it makes sense to me!
Funny you mention this because just the other day I made a makeshift rain cover to do some lightning shooting during a storm. Just a large ziploc bag and a lens hood did the trick. I wouldn't want be out in pouring rain with it or anything, but it kept a light rain and mist off the camera for a short period of time.
I bought a waterproof camera for this kinda stuff, but you can always just wait for it to stop (unless you're going for that whole it's-totally-raining-right-now effect) or do what Jeremy's done.
@kelseyyx23 I got a big umbrella and just made it happen. On one shoot, I had to sit on the ground to get the shot I want and came in soaked. Camera stayed dry and I got the shot. I'm sure there are better ways (see above). good luck! :)
@marubozo Ha! also being a Michigander, existing in the rain most of our days, I have done that exact thing too. some of the football games can get quite drizzly.
