long shot question -slr lenses

May 20th, 2011
Finally got round to dragging out mum's camera bag that I inherited. ( She died 8 years ago, but it's been too painful till now...I dragged it out to play with her filters due to something I wanted to try today,...so thanks 356 for giving me the kick I needed.)

I'm trying to work out which DSLR body to get and when I was looking at her equipment I was wondering if there's be any way I could use it ....because it would be cool, she loved photography and introduced me to it...and it would be cheaper.

She used a Fujika body and I had a Praktica but all her lenses worked on both bodies....lol. In the bag I found-RMC Tokina 70-210mm 1:35, Kestrel MC Automatic 1:28 f=35mm, Super-Takumar 1:3.5/35, Auto Teleplus 2x converter, no idea of maker but made in Japan and a Takumar 1:1.8/55.

Total mishmash but she bought what fitted :) . Any ideas?

I'm fully expecting people to fall over laughing whilst pointing fingers at the mad lady, but if you don't ask, you never find out .

thanks in advance.

I have a Canon (Rebel) and a 'M42' attachment (Readily available on eBay) - this allows me to use SLR lens on my DSLR - Only downside is that the camera knows there's a lens there, but doesn't have the required information from the lens to do auto-focus, aperture etc Ok by me as I doing everythig manually anyway, but even if you don't it's a great way to learn!

@voodoochild I can't speak for Canon bodies, but many Nikon bodies allow you to set values for Non CPU lenses. So you set a focal length (55mm for the Takumar you listed last) and maximum Aperture (1.8 for that lens). This allows your camera to meter and measure flash outputs more accurately, among other things. I do this for my LensBaby and the different apertures available on it.
Here's a link to an article on M42 adapters and how they work with different bodies. It looks like a Pentax body may best suit your needs, as far as ease of use goes.
That's a great way to honour your mother. I'm sure she's smiling at the thought!

ok, which is more useful ....18 -55 mm and50 - 200 mm or 18-55mm and 300mm. My usual stuff is scenery, kids and swim meets where I am not guaranteed to be anywhere near the pool. lol.
