2016.01.26 Tuesday: I have observed a good many Dark-eyed juncos at our feeders since winter arrived. This afternoon this one decided to break away from the pack and enjoy a few quiet moments alone on our deck.
I find it interesting that (according to Cornell University Lab of Ornithology's "Project Feeder Watch") the Dark-eyed junco is typically the most common feeder bird in North America.
Lucky you that you're seeing a lot of them this year! You did a great job capturing this one's sweet eye. I sometimes have trouble with that since it often blends into the surrounding color. We look forward to the arrival of these migrants each October, and they stay with us until Spring. The flash of white from their outer tail feathers in flight always alerts us to their beautiful presence.
Wonderfully composed. Love the colors here. That's interesting what you wrote about them being the most common feeder bird. Sure do see a lot of them, but the finches have them outnumbered at our house (though not by much.)
