Lester and I went to St.Alban's on Saturday and had lunch and a walk round the town before he had to take part in a Morris booking at the local parish church.
I had a wander through the churchyard while I was waiting for him and spotted this lovely little carving on a headstone.
Critique welcome. Veteran 365er, 2011 vintage. Only posting occasionally and irregularly now.

@riverlandphotos Thank you. Yes, it was a Morris dancing booking. Lester mostly plays melodeon (diatonic button accordion) now but he's been dancing the Morris for nearly 40 years.
Such a lovely carving. Very nicely composed, too. I'm glad you explained what a Morris booking is because I had no idea. You are a very artistic couple - musician and photographer!
Was it the grave of a young child? In the carving the angel appears to be holding an infant. It's sort of bitter sweet, the carving being so pretty, yet the sadness felt behind it.
@sabresun Exactly!
I couldn't see a lot of the inscription, too worn with age and covered in lichen but it started "Selina the beloved wife of..." I should think it's quite possible it was originally the grave of their child and the mother laid to rest there later.
