29th January 2019

The day has arrived. We had an early rise as we needed to be at Benenden hospital by 9.30 and it is a good 1.5 hours from Karen’s house. It was a very thick frost and it took some time to scrape down the car. Luckily, despite road closures and rush hour traffic we made it with plenty of time to spare.

The hospital is amazing - both the facilities and staff and the actual operation took just 15 minutes although we were there for nearly 3 hours overall. This is Colin sporting his eye patch which has to stay on for the rest of the day and the next few nights and his baseball cap from the New York Yankees stadium in New York as he is very sensitive to the light. We are both really relieved the first operation is over and based on his experience, Colin is not so worried about the next time which will be on the 26th of February.
