It was an early start! At least the taxi arrived perfectly on time and Sydney popped out to say goodbye.
All was on time and after our usual breakfast at Giraffe in terminal 5 we boarded but as it was a busy flight our middle seat which we hoped wouldn’t be filled was taken.
Zagreb airport is very impressive but we were delayed by Avis car hire as they waited for the return of the car. After nearly half an hour in very hot sun (that melted the Twix bar!) we were finally bought a Peugeot 5008 - a lot larger than the VW Golf we had ordered and, we discovered a little later, actually a 7-seater people carrier with a very dodgy gearbox... and we are supposed to drive this all around the country?
After a few SatNav detours we eventually got to our apartment, meeting Dominic our ‘meet and greet’ person outside the building. It is a brilliant apartment, on the 10th floor, fully refurbished and tastefully decorated and we have two bedrooms - one for the cases again and two bathrooms - very comfortable. I tried to take the view from the kitchen window but could not get the blind up so this is the view with blind!
After we had settled we discovered Tommy supermarket and later went to a Bosnian restaurant which had a Bulgarian waiter who spoke English and Croatian - I’m exhausted!
