29th December 2021

1 year, 269 days since the start of the 1st lock down in March 2020.

Up at 6.30am this morning and I was showered and dressed by 7.00am. I had to get a lot of things out of the fridges and freezers and had numerous lists. After breakfast and feeding Pingado I packed the car which took nearly 45 minutes but everything went in and all the valuables in the boot.

We finally set off at 8.40am, a little later than we had planned but I also had to empty the bin and feed the last of the bread to the birds.

Needless to say the weather wasn’t great and basically it rained for pretty much the entire journey. I had the first leg of driving and we planned to stop at our favourite Hillbrush at Mere for breakfast which is about 2 Hours from home. Unfortunately as we pulled in it was clear that it was closed and the gates were locked. There was a note on the gates that it will to be reopening until the 4th of January 2022. We were pretty disappointed but I decided to keep driving to our alternative the Hog and Hedge near Okehampton. This is a good 1.5 hours onwards so through the rain I was rather tired when we eventually arrived. Thank goodness it was open and we could enjoy their Christmas panini followed by a very good flat white and in my case salted caramel chocolate brownie.

Colin took over the driving for the last couple of hours and we made it in one stretch, arriving before 3.30pm. This was good timing and overall the journey took us less than 7 hours including a break.

For the first time since September 2017 the entire of my family was together in the same room and this is a selfie of all of us together before Christmas presents and before Sophie, David and Isabelle had to leave to go home. I sincerely hope that we can all meet up again in 2022.

After they had departed we emptied the car which took sometime and decided that my meal will actually be on New Years Eve instead of tomorrow.
