I set out for a photograph of a duckling or gosling... so here's a 'kit' or baby rabbit!
He was so unaware that I hope he becomes more nervous otherwise he will end up being a foxes dinner in the near future. I was shuffling on my knees through the daisies towards him taking a photo every few seconds in case he ran. In the end I had to call to him to get him to turn a little!! This is Spring for me.
@barrowlane Thank's Rob, I was creeping up to him but he really was a bit slow on the uptake. There are a number of warrens in the park and I think he was from the one under a raised flower bed! @nicolaeastwood That's funny as I had meant to say a belated Easter Bunny!!
@maggiemae I must admit I was quite pleased. I had been following Canada Geese goslings around but was not really happy and found this chap on my way out. There are some really small rabbits around here. I think they must be behind in their breeding because of the cold weather. I know they are classed as pests and I think the park manager uses ferrets to keep numbers down but I can't help feeling they are high on the cuteness scale! I know they are a big problem in NZ (along with the possums and hedgehogs - I must be the only person to have picked up 2 hedgehogs and carried them across the road and to have stopped for a possum at night to avoid hitting them - sorry!!)
Fantastic. I can just see you crawling thru the grass. I'm with you on the rescue of animals. Our poor possums - they didn't ask for their fate. But they do make nice yarn for knitting. Yes, I am the same when I am able to get close to a wild animal or bird. I am looking around at the predators, thinking as you - so grateful that I can get close yet so fearful that they let it happen. You couldn't have asked for anything better. I agree, a wonderful photo for a storybook. But I imagine it will go into one of your cards.
@emmadurnford I'm completely in support of rescue of wild animals--the world is theirs too, and if there are, from the human pov, "too many" of them, it's often because our species has upset the balance of nature--then we go and blame the victims of our own behaviour, and punish them for its results.
