The water in the Mississippi River is at near-record lows, exposing the Brookhill, a ferry boat that sank in 1915 during a hurricane. It's accessible enough for the public to see after a short climb down the levee. The two boys in the background seemed to love exploring a place that is usually under water.
It looks like it must’ve been a bit of a climb to get down there but how fascinating to see something that is usually so inaccessible. Terrific shot and the inclusion of the boys just makes it even better
@allie912 When I read about this in the paper, the first thing I wondered was how many people were lost when the boat went down. Turns out, it was tied up and the only person onboard, a watchman, was able to get off in time. But it did bring to mind other ferry boat disasters where so many drowned.
Impressive that a wooden vessel would last over 100 years under water. I imagine all kinds of things are being revealed. It's a shock to see the water level so low.
