She seemed to be panting, not snarling as it appears in the photo. She was chasing her 5 babies when she settled down for a rest.
Raccoons are problematic in our area--maybe everywhere? I'm told they can become a health hazard. We once trapped and relocated one, only to learn that is not recommended. Pest control workers are required to euthanize the ones they trap. Seems so harsh when raccoons are just trying to survive in an urbanized area. We try to discourage them by not leaving cat food on the deck overnight. In the past, once the babies were weaned, the family moved on.
Great shot- yes unfortunately in an urban area- and even in a wooded one like mine- if they accustomed to an easier meal, they do become a problem. Every now and then one checks out our garbage, but so far no problem children (hehe)! Great idea to discourage them by bringing in the birdseed. Poor mama- she really does look tired!
This photo is a fabulous one with wonderful clarity and a nice POV
