The crops are off and the field plowed. Cows are snuggled in the warm barn, just waiting for a blanket of snow to cover everything.
This barn is on the highest point in Glengarry. The farm was bought over 100 years ago by a family that lived on the Nation River. That river flooded its' banks regularly, destroying their home and barn. Frustrated, they vowed they would never suffer the ravages of flooding again, so they looked on a map to find higher ground.
Tidy looking place! Unusual to see a barn painted that shade of green; it's a very pleasing colour (to me.) I like how you shot this against a cloudy autumn sky.
@barrowlane Yes - this barn is very typical of the type in our area. The original piece has hay storage above the stable part. This barn has been added onto over the years. The milk house (small building in front of silo) was added on when mechanical miking systems with a pipeline became popular and refrigerated bulk tanks to store the milk became mandatory.
The long low piece, extra stalls, was added on 15 years ago. You can see a soft roofed dome type building at the back - that is for heifers and dry cows.
It is the old original barn that ties all the rest together.
