You know spring is on the way when these guys show up! They only visit my feeders as a flock in the early spring.They disperse, pair up and go to the nearest wetland as soon as the weather warms, the ice is off, and the girls are back. Male red-wing blackbirds return to the breeding grounds earlier than the females.
They are very shy, skittish, and elusive birds who will fly away as soon as they sense any humans around.
