Charles, I think I finally have it! (Only two challenges later!)
Sometimes lessons are forced on you.
I wasn't able to get out earlier to get a picture since I had a really busy day so ended up with only low light opportunities at the end of the day. So, I played in the fading light by the reflective puddle to come up with this shot.
Taken completely on manual, I now know how to adjust the settings to get what is required. Foreground could have a little more detail, but not bad in general.

You can see enough detail in the foreground while the sky highlights are emphasized.
Look out, world! I now know how to do this - will get the perfect shot yet!
