I have always wondered how people made objects seem so miniaturized. Now, thanks to Rob Z @robz challenging me to try tilt shift photography, I know!
I also learned that there is a special lens that will give this effect, and that a Lensbaby will also help.
But, since I have neither, I had to resort to post editing!
Here's my attempt at tilt shift, Rob Z @robz .
The over-passes over the highway are the only high locations I can find to try this - it was fun - and scary - with the trucks roaring below me!
@farmreporter Boy - I hope they won't also roaring by you up on the overpass! This has worked so well - Challenge well met!! I'm so pleased you found it fun - I've tried it with other POVs too eg just at the top of a beach or on a jetty - the result is not as "tilt-shifty?!" but still pretty interesting. Cheers Rob. :)
Wendy, I’ve been looking on and off at your project; but I’ve also been visiting with our guests and my mind isn’t fully focused on coming up with a good challenge for you. So I’m relying on Frank’s grandmother’s little red dictionary. Apologies if I’ve fallen back on that in the past when partnered with you. I stuck my finger in randomly and it landed on the word “best.” In addition, here are a few of the words surrounding that: bestial, bestow, beware, bewilder, bewitch.
Use one or more of those six words as theme or inspiration for your photo. Extra points if you use more than one in the same photo. Extra points if it’s one of the other words besides “bestial” as that should be easy, easy on your farm and with your dogs. How does that sound?
@granagringa
Location is the main criteria. You have to shoot from a high angle since most models or miniatures are viewed from above and this will 'fool' the eye into seeing the miniature.
Then, it is a matter of selective focus in post processing (or in the case of the Nikon D7200) just a matter of a special effect applied to the photo.
@farmreporter Thank you...now I'll have to see what my sony will do and where to find selective focus in PS....sometimes I think I just want to go back to a box camera!
